Overview
From the official set description:
Reality shifts and is remade in the Pokémon TCG: XY—Fates Collide expansion! Mega Alakazam-EX sees the future—and shapes it to unify two worlds! The Legendary Pokémon Zygarde arrives in many different Formes to bring order, together with Lugia BREAK, Mega Altaria-EX, and Umbreon-EX. Fates are sealed, and two Pokémon worlds join together!
The BREAK Evolution Returns
Fates Collide gave the BREAK Evolution mechanic one of its strongest showings, adding five new BREAK cards that turned ordinary Pokémon into resilient, hard-hitting threats.
Rounding out the quintet, Delphox BREAK (#14) and Omastar BREAK (#19) add Fire firepower and Water utility to the BREAK line-up.
Mega Evolutions & the Alakazam Focus
The set’s primary focus is Alakazam — specifically its Mega Evolution, the psychic powerhouse that anchors Fates Collide’s branding and its Elite Trainer Box.
A Strong Class of Pokémon-EX
Beyond the Megas, Fates Collide is stacked with Pokémon-EX — several of which mattered on the competitive table as well as in the binder.
Products & Print Versions
Fates Collide shipped in four booster pack artworks — Alakazam, Zygarde, Lugia and Delphox — sold in booster boxes and the usual retail blisters. The Elite Trainer Box carried the Mega Alakazam-EX branding, and a Mega Alakazam collector pin blister and 4-pocket portfolio rounded out the line-up. (The sell sheet opens full size in a new tab.)

For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards
Fates Collide’s value sits with its secret rare, its Full Arts, and the two BREAK/EX cards that also happened to win games.
Most Powerful Cards (Competitive Play)
Fates Collide punched above its weight competitively, largely on the strength of two BREAK cards and a couple of strong EX attackers.
Trivia & Points of Interest
- Anime tie-in. Fates Collide landed in the middle of the XY&Z anime’s Zygarde arc, and the set leans into it with multiple Zygarde forms and Zygarde-EX sharing top billing with Alakazam.
- The first Mega Alakazam. M Alakazam-EX (#26) is the TCG’s first Mega Evolution of Alakazam, and it’s the card the whole set is built around.
- Carbink BREAK broke the meta’s brain. Its lock on Pokémon-EX and Mega attack effects made it one of the most notorious “wall” cards of the XY era, spawning a control deck that could shut EX-reliant strategies out entirely.
- Five new BREAKs. Delphox, Omastar, Carbink, Bronzong and Lugia all received BREAK cards here, one of the mechanic’s biggest single-set contributions.
- Japanese origin. Most of the cards debuted in the Japanese set Awakening Psychic King (めざめる超王), released about six weeks before the English launch.
Japanese Sets, Videos & Gallery
In Japan, most of Fates Collide’s cards came from Awakening Psychic King (めざめる超王, Mezameru Chō-Ō), an 88-card expansion released on March 18, 2016 — roughly six weeks ahead of the English set. As usual, the English release folded in additional cards and secret rares on top of that Japanese base.
