Mega Evolution Series
The TCG’s newest era brings Mega Evolution roaring back — this time as Mega Pokémon ex, huge high-HP attackers worth three Prize cards when they fall.
The Mega Evolution Series (2025–present) is the Pokémon TCG’s current era, and it does exactly what the name promises — it brings Mega Evolution roaring back as the game’s headline gimmick. This time the mechanic arrives as Mega Pokémon ex: huge, high-HP attackers that hand your opponent three Prize cards when they’re knocked out.
The series kicked off on 26 September 2025 with the Mega Evolution base set and has rolled out a new expansion roughly every couple of months since. It runs alongside Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and several of its expansions pull their themes and featured Pokémon straight from that game. The signature Mega Pokémon ex is a fresh spin on the old idea, folded into the Scarlet & Violet-era “ex” framework rather than the turn-ending Mega-EX cards of the XY days — and heavy hitters like Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex anchored the early sets.

Where it all began
Mega Evolved Pokémon first appeared in the TCG more than a decade earlier, during the XY Series (2014–2016) — the block that introduced Mega Pokémon-EX and planted the seed for this modern revival. Worth a look if you want to see where the idea started.
