Ascended Heroes booster pack

Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes is a special expansion of the Pokémon TCG’s Mega Evolution Series, released in English on January 30, 2026. At 295 cards — 217 in the main set plus 78 secret rares — it is the largest English Pokémon TCG set ever printed, built around 13 new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and a sprawling cast of trainer-owned “character” Pokémon.

Ascended Heroes is a celebration set that pairs the dawn of Mega Evolution with the stars of the Scarlet & Violet era. Alongside its Mega ex — Mega Charizard Y ex, Mega Gengar ex, Mega Dragonite ex and more — it is stuffed with character Pokémon: Team Rocket’s, Cynthia’s, Ethan’s, Erika’s, N’s, Larry’s, Iono’s, Hop’s and Lillie’s Pokémon all appear.

It introduces a brand-new rarity — the pop-art Mega attack rare — and, as a premium specialty release, it skips a standard booster box in favour of Elite Trainer Boxes, collections, Mega ex boxes and tins. In Japan it draws on the high-value MEGA Dream ex set and the Start Deck 100 Battle Collection.

New heights await! Legendary heroes and fan-favourite Trainers stand shoulder to shoulder with a new wave of Mega Evolution Pokémon ex — Mega Charizard Y ex, Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Gengar ex and more — in the largest Pokémon TCG expansion ever. Rise to the occasion and ascend with your heroes in Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes!

A Celebration of Heroes

Ascended Heroes key art

Ascended Heroes is the series’ big celebration set — and its ‘heroes’ are the trainers themselves. It pairs the dawn of Mega Evolution with the stars of the Scarlet & Violet era, packing in trainer-owned ‘character’ Pokémon from across the modern games: Team Rocket’s, Cynthia’s, N’s, Iono’s, Erika’s, Lillie’s, Hop’s and more all appear.

At 295 cards it is the largest English Pokémon TCG set ever printed, threading a huge Mega line-up — Mega Charizard Y ex, Mega Gengar ex, Mega Dragonite ex and many more — through that cast of fan-favourite characters. It even introduces a brand-new rarity, the pop-art Mega attack rare.

Fittingly for a premium celebration, it skips a standard booster box entirely in favour of Elite Trainer Boxes, collections, Mega ex boxes and tins — a release built for collectors and character fans first.

Highlights

As the largest set ever, Ascended Heroes is loaded with chase cards. The two gold Mega Hyper Rares — Mega Charizard Y ex and Mega Dragonite ex — sit above a stacked run of Special Illustration Rares led by Mega Gengar ex, a booota-illustrated Pikachu ex and a Mitsuhiro Arita Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex.

As a specialty release, Ascended Heroes uses a single English booster-pack design — there is no standard booster box, so packs are found inside Elite Trainer Boxes, the Booster Bundle, collections, Mega ex boxes and tins.

Japanese Release & the Dual Set

In Japan the set’s cards come from the high-value special expansion MEGA Dream ex (メガドリームex), released November 28, 2025 and headlined by Mega Dragonite ex — a “hit-per-pack” premium set in the vein of Japan’s other high-rarity releases.

The English Ascended Heroes also folds in cards from the Start Deck 100 Battle Collection, a ready-to-play Japanese product, which together with MEGA Dream ex pushes the English list to its record-breaking 295 cards.

Trivia

  • At 295 cards, Ascended Heroes is the largest English Pokémon TCG set ever printed, beating every prior release.
  • It introduces a brand-new rarity, the Mega attack rare — full-art Mega Evolution Pokémon ex rendered in a bold pop-art style, caught mid-attack.
  • The set is a character celebration: trainer-owned Pokémon from across the games appear — Team Rocket’s, Cynthia’s, Ethan’s, Erika’s, N’s, Larry’s, Iono’s, Hop’s, Lillie’s, Marnie’s and Steven’s among them.
  • There is no standard booster box — like a premium set, its packs are only sold inside ETBs, bundles, collections, Mega ex boxes and tins.
  • Two gold Mega Hyper Rares top the set: Mega Charizard Y ex and Mega Dragonite ex.
  • Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex’s Special Illustration Rare is illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, the artist behind the original Base Set Charizard — a deliberate hit of nostalgia.
  • The English list merges Japan’s high-value MEGA Dream ex set with the Start Deck 100 Battle Collection; strong launch demand and the box-free format kept sealed prices high, with the Mega Gengar ex and Pikachu ex SIRs among the whole era’s most valuable cards.
