The Sun & Moon Series (2017–2019) carried the Pokémon TCG into the tropical Alola region and introduced the era-defining Pokémon-GX — big attackers with a powerful GX attack you could use just once per game.

The block ran from February 2017 through late 2019 across 16 expansions, tying in with Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on the Nintendo 3DS. It gave the game Prism Star cards, the fan-favourite mini-sets Shining Legends and Hidden Fates, and the enormous Tag Team GX pairs that headlined its final year.
