A Rivalry to Gible On! is the 40th episode of Pokémon DP: Galactic Battles, the twelfth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 607th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 612, Bulbapedia code DP145). It first aired in Japan on 1 October 2009 and in the United States on 20 February 2010. It falls within the season’s Lyra & Khoury stretch (EP143–EP147).
Synopsis
Ash and Khoury compete to catch a rowdy wild Gible on Mt. Shady, and Khoury’s Totodile wins the right to catch it. At a Pokémon Center, children report that a Gible has beaten their Pokémon, and Ash sets out to catch it, with a nervous Khoury following once his Pokédex says it can evolve into Gabite.
The Gible hurls rocks with Strength, escapes Buizel and Totodile with Sandstorm and Dig, and hides its fin in tall grass. Bait and fishing rods fail, Ash falls into a Trapinch’s pit, and in a maze-like cave the group are scattered by Diglett, an Onix and Zubat while Lyra teases Dawn about Khoury.
Outside, the Gible waits for a fight, and Dawn and Lyra persuade Ash to let Khoury go first. Totodile and Gible trade rocks with Crunch and Superpower until Gible drops a boulder on its own head and splits it. When it tries to flee underground, Water Gun forces it out, Aqua Tail hits, and Khoury catches it.
