Synopsis
Ash defeats his friend Nando in the first round of the Lily of the Valley Conference. Nando calls the match fate and thanks Ash for inspiring him to enter, Paul warns Ash that fighting spirit will not be enough when everyone has eight Badges, and Team Rocket are assigned the worst vendor booth.
In the three-on-three battle, Staraptor soars above Roserade’s Solar Beam and wins with Brave Bird, but Armaldo’s Protect and Rock Blast defeat Staraptor. Quilava’s Aerial Ace and Armaldo’s X-Scissor end in a double knockout. Heracross falls asleep to Kricketune’s Sing yet keeps fighting with Sleep Talk, then drives Megahorn into the ground and finishes Kricketune with Horn Attack.
Nando thanks Ash and leaves the tournament. Team Rocket’s free samples draw crowds to their booth, and Dawn reports that Paul, Barry and Conway have also won. Brock then tells Ash about a mysterious Trainer named Tobias who won his match with a Darkrai, and Ash is thrilled at the thought of facing such a powerful opponent.
