Synopsis

After the League, Naganadel returns to its own world, Ash beats Kiawe in a long-promised battle, Lillie’s Magearna finally awakens, and Ash decides to go home to Pallet Town and see the world. At breakfast, Naganadel senses an Ultra Wormhole above the house, and Ash hugs it goodbye as Pikachu sends it off with a Thunderbolt. At school, Professor Kukui asks about holiday plans: Sophocles will visit the Mossdeep Space Center in Hoenn with his cousin Molayne, Kiawe wants the rematch with Ash that the League never gave them, Lana will help her father search for Manaphy, Mallow will turn Aina’s Kitchen into a restaurant for people and Pokémon, and Lillie hopes to awaken Magearna. Ash admits that he has no idea what his next goal should be, and Kukui tells him that he must work it out for himself.

Mallow hosts a tasting party for her first Pokémon menu, and Lillie admits that her efforts with Magearna have failed; that night she polishes it and gives its Soul-Heart an electric jolt, but nothing happens, and in the morning she finds a drawing of Magearna with Zoroark in her father’s journal. At the Ruins of Life on Akala Island, with Olivia refereeing, Kiawe’s Charizard knocks Lycanroc away with Fire Punch, Lycanroc climbs its own Stone Edge to bite Charizard’s tail, and Slash sends it crashing down. Both sides finish with Z-Moves, and Splintered Stormshards overpowers Inferno Overdrive, Charizard’s first use of the move. Both Pokémon lie still until Lycanroc rises, giving Ash the win. Kiawe vows to complete his island challenge and become a kahuna, and Olivia tells both boys to learn about the wider Pokémon world.

That evening, Gladion brings Zoroark to Lillie’s house. Recognizing the room and Magearna, it conjures an illusion of Mohn working on Magearna as baby Lillie takes her first steps and Lusamine rushes in, overjoyed, and of Mohn asking Magearna to look after his daughter. Lillie weeps at the sight. Purple light bursts from Magearna’s Soul-Heart, ending the illusion, and Magearna moves again, bows to Lillie and presents her with a bouquet of flowers, and Lillie hugs her newly awakened friend as Gladion, Zoroark and Snowy smile. Gazing at the full moon from his bedroom window, Ash thinks over Olivia’s advice, jumps out of bed and wakes Pikachu and Rotom to announce his decision: he will return to Pallet Town and then set out to travel the world, and Pikachu happily agrees.
