Synopsis
With the Cerise Laboratory closed for repairs on a snowy day, Goh goes home to his family and, with Ash’s help, recovers a bullied Cubone’s stolen bone, then catches the Cubone in front of his parents. Professor Cerise explains that the lab’s network needs several days of work and suggests the boys go home; Goh phones his parents, who run a software company called Go-Go Systems. The next morning Scorbunny hurries Goh onto his bus so quickly that he drops the gift he packed for his family, and Ash calls after him too late. At the apartment, Goh’s grandmother Halta serves homemade stew and heads off to a karaoke tournament, promising to return with the trophy. At work, Goh’s parents, Camille and Walker, worry that they have rarely had time for their son, who spends his days researching on his computer and whose only friend his own age is Chloe; then an urgent call about a hospital system failure forces them to stay late.
Goh tells his mother that he will be fine, though Scorbunny can see that he is used to his parents being too busy. Deciding to take them the stew himself, he packs a thermos and realises that his gift is missing. Cutting through a park, he and Scorbunny find three Mankey teasing a Cubone; Scorbunny kicks two of them away, but the third knocks the bone from Cubone’s hand and the Mankey escape with it. Goh promises the sobbing Cubone that he will help and sends out Butterfree, Beedrill, Scyther and Taillow, who shiver in the cold as he shows them a picture of the culprits. Ash, meanwhile, finds no answer at apartment 707, phones Goh and joins the search. A Nanab Berry lures the Mankey out; Electroweb misses, but Quick Attack, Thunderbolt and Butterfree’s Stun Spore stop all three, which claim to have lost the bone somewhere.
The search drags on into evening until Butterfree befriends a passing wild Fearow. Ash sends out Dragonite to fly the boys into the sky, and the Fearow leads a flock of Flying types to a lake where the Mankey had dropped the bone into the water. Goh sends his Ice-type Dewgong to search the freezing lakebed, and it returns with the bone to Cubone’s joy. Camille and Walker, startled to have seen their son flying overhead, arrive at the lake; Camille thanks Ash for looking after Goh, who looks away in embarrassment. Goh introduces his team, Cubone asks to join, and he catches it with an easy throw. Ash then hands over the gift Goh dropped at the bus stop—a pair of winter gloves for each parent—and Goh invites Ash to share the stew. Halta returns with her golden karaoke trophy, Ash does a playful karaoke impression, and Goh’s parents are pleased to see how many good friends their son has made.
