Synopsis

On a trip to the Pewter Museum of Science, Goh digs up a piece of Old Amber, and when Team Rocket’s meddling makes the revived Aerodactyl flee into the night, he battles it with Golurk and earns its trust. A promotional video for a giant Shieldon exhibit lures Ash and Goh to Pewter City, and Professor Cerise sends a reluctant Chloe along for a school project. Inside, the boys are thrilled by the revived Fossil Pokémon while Chloe is overwhelmed, but the Shieldon line is too long and the exhibit closes for the day. Instead they join a fossil dig where visitors keep what they find. The museum’s president—a curator who looks strikingly like the excavation leader from the Colossus Ruins—identifies Ash’s find as a fossilized footprint and explains that prime specimens like a Claw Fossil can be restored with a special machine. Team Rocket, who have been smashing boulders in vain, plan to steal any Fossil Pokémon that is revived.

Goh calls out Golurk, Raboot and Sobble to help dig, and Chloe finds a fossilized shell that is not new but suits her assignment. As evening falls and Ash and Chloe say it is time to go, Goh spots something glinting in the rock and digs out a piece of Old Amber, a rare hardened resin that preserves ancient DNA. The curator starts restoring it overnight in the museum’s machine while the group stays at the Pokémon Center. Team Rocket crawl in through the ventilation ducts, and when Jessie grows impatient, James tampers with the machine to speed it up. It explodes with a boom that wakes Pewter City; the machine is wrecked, but the Old Amber has been restored in record time, and the revived Pokémon flies off into the dark with Goh in pursuit.

Pikachu sniffs out Team Rocket in the bushes, and the Rocket Prize Master gives them a Nidorino and a Graveler; Ash sends Chloe to fetch Goh while he deals with the trio. Goh’s Rotom Phone identifies the runaway as an Aerodactyl, which ignores his pleas and floors Raboot with Rock Slide. Golurk takes over, enduring wing strikes, Dragon Breath and Iron Head while firing Flash Cannon, and when Chloe asks Goh to help Ash, he says he is too busy. Meanwhile Pikachu escapes Poison Sting and Graveler’s rolling Tackle by stringing an Electroweb between two trees; Graveler bounces off it into Team Rocket and blasts them away. Golurk finally brings Aerodactyl down with Hammer Arm and Flash Cannon, and Goh, realising that it was frightened to wake in an unfamiliar world, gently pats its snout and invites it to adjust to the new era by travelling with him. Calmed, it lets him catch it and flies happy circles around him. Back at the lab, Chloe surprises everyone by admitting that she had fun too.
