Synopsis
Goh’s Grookey and Chloe’s Eevee are sent to deliver supplies to the Cerise Laboratory on their own while their Trainers secretly follow, and a parallel errand by Team Rocket’s Pelipper keeps crossing their path. Ash, Goh and Chloe are picking up supplements for Professor Cerise at the Vermilion City Pokémon Center when Grookey and Eevee play so roughly with Nurse Joy’s Chansey that its egg nearly cracks. On the way home Goh and Chloe each blame the other’s Pokémon, so Ash suggests settling the matter by letting the two partners finish the errand alone. Wearing scarves, Grookey and Eevee set off with the supplements while the Trainers trail them in secret, ready to help quietly if anything goes wrong. At Team Rocket’s hideout, meanwhile, the Rocket Prize Master produces an Appletun and a Vanillite, and the sight of Vanillite perched on Appletun like ice cream on apple pie gives the hungry trio an idea.
Jessie has already bought an apple pie, so the trio decide to buy ice cream to go with it before Morpeko wakes up and eats everything. Each passes the job down the line until Pelipper is the only one left, and it flies off full of confidence while Jessie worries. In the city, Grookey pokes a passing Trainer’s Geodude with its stick and Eevee tickles it, chasing it into an alley; Ash sends Gengar to frighten them back onto the street, using Psychic to make bins and bags move and slipping through walls. Team Rocket, secretly following Pelipper, watch it forget its task outside the ice cream shop, so Meowth, disguised as an old man, hands it a map. When the wind blows the map away, Pelipper keeps following the map rather than the road and nearly collides with Grookey and Eevee as they cross a street, until Ash’s Sirfetch’d pulls them clear.
In desperation, Team Rocket park their own ice cream van and call out for any errand-running Pelipper. Grookey runs towards the van, dropping some supplements, which Eevee gathers up to finish the job herself. The trio stuff an ice cream package into Pelipper’s bill and drive off, and Grookey climbs into the bill too and is carried away. Ash and Goh give chase but are blocked by a Snorlax in an alley, while Chloe heads on to the laboratory. Pelipper drops Grookey in the woods near the lab and returns to base, where Morpeko devours both the pie and the ice cream before the trio get a bite. Remembering Goh’s trust in it, Grookey sets off for the lab on its own. Ash and Goh, unable to find it, join Chloe at the gates just as Eevee arrives, and finally Grookey stumbles in, exhausted, taking its last few steps with Goh’s encouragement before collapsing into his arms.
