Synopsis
In Galar’s Crown Tundra, Lillie, Gladion and Lusamine finally find Mohn, living with amnesia beside a Shiny Nihilego that he believes is his daughter, while Ash, Goh and Chloe investigate reports of a mysterious Pokémon. Word of an unknown white-and-yellow Pokémon sighted in the snow brings the trio to the town of Freezington, where the mayor can only say he saw it during a blizzard. Another storm forces them to stay the night. Meanwhile, Lillie’s family, still searching for Mohn, has sailed north because Magearna keeps beaming light towards the same spot, which Gladion has traced to the Crown Tundra. When the weather clears, Magearna guides them to a lonely house filled with piano music, and Lillie runs inside to find her father. She hugs him and Zoroark nuzzles its old Trainer, but Mohn recognises none of them and is merely surprised that they know his name, which nearly makes Lusamine faint. He invites them in for tea.
The house is dim, and Mohn mentions that his daughter, also named Lillie, is playing the piano in the next room, but the family finds a Shiny Nihilego there instead. Lusamine stops Gladion from attacking, realising that Mohn sees the Ultra Beast as his daughter, and Nihilego turns invisible. Searching the piano room, Lillie opens the grimy windows and finds Mohn’s old Aether Foundation uniform and a mirror hidden in a drawer, just as Nihilego prepares a Venoshock behind her. Pikachu, who has followed a familiar scent with Ash, Goh and Chloe, leaps through the window and drives it off with Iron Tail, and Ash is reunited with Lillie and Gladion. When Lusamine shows Mohn a family portrait he sees no resemblance, and when she tries to explain what his “daughter” really is, Nihilego attacks her. Gladion saves his mother and Zoroark pins the creature, but Lillie stops the fight by thanking Nihilego for protecting her father.
The family pieces the story together: Nihilego caught Mohn as he fell into the Ultra Deep Sea after an Ultra Wormhole accident, heard him murmur his daughter’s name, brought him back through a wormhole to this abandoned house and made him see it as Lillie. It dirtied the windows and hid every mirror so that he would never see his reflection and remember, fearing that his past would end their life together. Gladion shows Mohn the mirror, and seeing himself for the first time in years, Mohn regains all his memories, calls each of them by name and joins a tearful family embrace, amazed to see Magearna moving again. As Nihilego turns to leave, Lillie begs it to stay, and Mohn agrees, saying it is the reason he could return home. The family catches it together in a Beast Ball, and Chloe takes a group photo of the reunited Aether family.
