Synopsis
Deep inside Faraway Island, Groudon and Kyogre turn out to be Mew in disguise, and after a vision of the birth of the universe and a furious display of power, Goh’s heartfelt gratitude wins Mew’s trust and brings Project Mew’s expedition to a close. Quillon’s Weavile is overpowered by Groudon until Gary distracts it, and the Legendary unexpectedly turns away, while Danika’s Azumarill is no match for Kyogre, whose Origin Pulse sends Goh and Horace flying. As Kyogre prepares another attack, Goh’s Grookey strikes it with its newly learned Wood Hammer; the blow does little, but Kyogre swims off. Following the two giants to a vast open space at the heart of Table Mountain, the Chasers watch them clash, glow and merge into one being: Mew, which has been using Transform all along. Mew teleports onto a glowing floating rock whose light spreads to the others, delighting the wild Pokémon, and when the Chasers approach, a blinding light engulfs them.
Goh finds himself floating in space, witnessing a supernova, the birth of a galaxy, the formation of the Solar System and the birth of the Pokémon world, until Rayquaza knocks him into a prehistoric sea full of ancient Pokémon and he is carried towards Faraway Island beside Mew. Snapping out of it, the Chasers realise they all shared the vision, and Danika theorises that the rock holds crystallised memories of the universe, but when she touches it the glow fades, the other rocks dim, and the wild Pokémon begin to quarrel. As Professor Amaranth reports that their devices are working again, Mew appears overhead and unleashes Thunderbolt on the brawling Pokémon, defeats Quillon’s and Danika’s Urshifu with Air Slash, and smashes through Gardevoir’s Light Screen with a massive Shadow Ball, knocking out wave after wave of the Chasers’ Pokémon, though Goh believes Mew is only playing.
Remembering Ash, Goh steps in front of the others and tells Mew how much it has inspired him, even though it does not remember their first meeting. Mew charges a Hyper Beam, but Goh stands firm and thanks it again, and his gratitude catches Mew off guard. It dispels the attack, heals the injured Pokémon, makes the rocks glow again and teleports everyone to the foot of the mountain. When Goh raises his hand for his catchphrase about holding the future in his palm, Mew suddenly appears on it before vanishing again. Rain marks the start of the wet season and the end of the expedition. In Slateport City, Professor Amaranth disbands the Chasers for now, offering Goh, Gary and Horace places on his next expedition, which Danika and Quillon have already joined. After exchanging encouragement with his friends, Goh boards a ship for Kanto and calls Ash to ask how his battle against Leon went.
