Synopsis
When the damaged Brave Olivine lands on a small island, the ship’s runaway Fuecoco befriends Roy, a local boy who dreams of becoming a Trainer, and Liko meets him while fleeing the island’s angry wild Pokémon. Liko wakes, chooses her everyday clothes over her school uniform and is on lookout duty when the airship starts losing altitude; Friede sets it down in a rocky valley on an island he knows, and Orla reports that the gasbag has torn in several places. Friede flies off on Charizard to ask an old man who once looked after him for help, and Fuecoco, which idolises Charizard, chases after them and slides off the wing deck. While feeding the ship’s Pokémon, Liko notices it is missing and learns from the crew that it eats a lot, sings only when nobody is watching, and admires Charizard. Finding its drag marks, she and Sprigatito follow its footprints down to the beach.
Fuecoco devours a pile of Berries it finds in the woods, while Roy attends an online class on his Rotom Pad. All his classmates are Trainers, but no one on his island has Pokémon, so he cannot catch one. Finding his secret base ransacked, he follows a trail of footprints and singing to Fuecoco on a hilltop, compliments its song and rescues it from a ravine, and the two end up singing together while Roy tells it about his dream of seeing the world. Liko, meanwhile, is chased by forest Pokémon furious about their missing Berries, and Roy saves her by throwing a rock to distract a pair of Scyther. In a safe spot the two introduce themselves, and Roy shows her his treasure, the Ancient Poké Ball his grandfather found long ago and could never open. He dreams of exploring like the legendary Ancient Adventurer, who is said to have met Legendary Pokémon.
The forest Pokémon catch up with them, and while Sprigatito fights back, Fuecoco cannot use any Fire-type moves. Caterpie and Weedle bind the children with String Shot and drag them to the spot where Fuecoco ate the Pokémon’s food stash. Friede arrives but refuses to use Charizard’s fire, saying it would only make things worse; he and Captain Pikachu dodge the String Shots until the agitated Pokémon tangle themselves up, then calm them with Lum Berries. Roy asks if Friede is a Pokémon Professor, and Liko is amazed when he says yes. Liko helps Roy and Friede gather Berries to replace the stolen ones before returning to the ship with Fuecoco, and Roy misses it the moment it is gone. That night, Amethio asks Hamber, butler to the Explorers’ leader Gibeon, not to report to his master yet; Hamber warns him not to underestimate Friede, and Amethio sends the Explorers’ submarine after the tracker hidden on the Brave Olivine.
