Synopsis
Searching the Galar Mine for the Black Rayquaza, Liko and Roy instead encounter a furious Galarian Moltres clutching one of Lucius’s Ancient Poké Balls, whose Fiery Wrath drains everyone’s stamina while Friede battles Amethio deeper inside. At the mine entrance, Hatenna trembles in Liko’s hood, and the group suspects it is sensing the Legendary’s feelings. Friede explains that the glowing rocks on the walls are part of Rayquaza’s diet of dust and meteorites, but while he lectures, Liko and Roy run ahead and lose him. A mysterious cry echoes through the tunnels, and a Woobat leads them to a hole where it hides with a Timburr and a Roggenrola; Liko shares Murdock’s cookies, and Hatenna comes out to join them. When the cry sounds again, the wild Pokémon scatter, and Woobat leads the children to a settlement where workers and their Pokémon have been drained of their stamina by “a giant Pokémon,” and Liko calls the Pokémon Center for help.
As they head back towards Friede, who has found strange claw marks on a cave wall, Zirc and Onia confront the children and Amethio confronts Friede. Captain Pikachu blocks Golduck’s Scratch with Thunder Punch and sends it into a chasm, Liko’s pendant begins to glow, and a Galarian Moltres bursts out of the depths, with an Ancient Poké Ball in its talons and no entry in Roy’s Pokédex. Its Air Slash badly hurts Golduck and Rhydon, sending Zirc and Onia into retreat, and its Fiery Wrath saps the strength of Captain Pikachu and the others, the same fate that befell the workers. Cap shields Sprigatito from Wing Attack and Air Slash, taking the hits himself. Elsewhere, Amethio’s Ceruledge pressures Charizard with Phantom Force until Dragon Claw lands, and its Weak Armor Ability then speeds up a Night Slash.
Roy and Fuecoco refuse to give up, their determination overcoming Moltres’s aura, but Moltres deflects Fuecoco’s Flamethrower with Hurricane and traps it in the tornado. Captain Pikachu rescues Fuecoco and blocks an Air Slash aimed at Roy with Thunder Punch, taking heavy damage. As Moltres’s rage starts to bring the mine down, Liko shakes Roy out of his fear, and the two flee in a mine cart with Moltres in pursuit. Friede and Amethio are stunned to see the cart race past with Moltres behind it; Charizard’s Flamethrower protects the children, and Friede tells them to look after Captain Pikachu. The enraged Moltres turns on Friede and Amethio instead, while Liko and Roy escape from the mine carrying the exhausted Cap.
