Synopsis
In Artazon, Liko and Roy meet the cheerful Champion-ranked Trainer Nemona and the slumping Gym Leader Brassius, who has seen the Black Rayquaza, and Roy loses an unofficial battle in which he witnesses Terastallization for the first time. The town is full of Grass-type Pokémon and Sunflora sculptures, while Brassius broods alone before a huge, shadowy Rayquaza sculpture. Nemona uses her Pawmo to defeat a wild Skiploom, challenges the newcomers on the spot and, since Brassius has been skipping Gym battles, leads them to his atelier, where they find him smashing one of his own works. Learning that Alex sent Liko, Brassius greets her with unsettling enthusiasm and invites them in for tea among his Grass-type sculptures. His Dolliv sprays oil on Pawmo, Sprigatito’s sweet scent calms it, and when Roy mentions the Black Rayquaza, Brassius changes the subject. Spotting a shattered Rayquaza sculpture, Liko realises he is in a slump, as her father once was, and decides to cheer him up.
Following the local children’s custom, the three gather Sunflora on Sunflora Lawn while Brassius watches from afar. Liko mistakes a sculpture for a real Sunflora but, noticing Sprigatito basking in the sun, realises the Pokémon prefer sunny spots and collects more than Roy and Nemona combined. Dolliv’s spray gives Brassius away, and he takes them home to show them a giant Rayquaza sculpture beside an anguished Sunflora meant to capture the Legendary’s intensity through a Sunflora’s eyes. Seeing the real Black Rayquaza, he explains, turned his world upside down and killed his interest in Gym battles. Roy, amazed, resolves to go to the forest where Brassius saw it, and Brassius answers his determination with a battle, sending out Sudowoodo against Fuecoco.
Assuming Sudowoodo is a Grass type, Roy orders Ember, which barely hurts the Rock-type Pokémon, and Rock Throw hits Fuecoco hard. Sudowoodo keeps fooling Fuecoco’s Tackle with Substitute, then provokes it with Taunt, and Brassius tells Roy to focus on his own Pokémon. In a rage Fuecoco stomps the ground and learns Stomping Tantrum, shattering a substitute and landing a super-effective hit on the real Sudowoodo. Brassius then Terastallizes Sudowoodo into a Grass type, calling it “From Fiction Comes Truth,” and Trailblaze knocks Fuecoco out. Nemona explains how Tera Types work, and Brassius congratulates Roy and shows them another sculpture, “Arboliva of the Woods,” depicting the forest where he saw the Black Rayquaza, which he says resonated with the Legendary. Back on the Brave Olivine, Liko tells Roy that the sculpture felt sad, and in a dark forest a shadowy Arboliva walks among the trees.
