Synopsis
With Nemona’s help, Roy rethinks why he sings with Fuecoco and wins his rematch against Ryme at her evening concert, passing his second Tera Training test. Liko and Dot cheer up the downcast Roy, and Nemona points out that Ryme told him to come back, so he still has a chance; she suggests challenging Ryme again at that night’s concert and invites all three to Hyper Training to build stamina, speed and power. Roy and Fuecoco enjoy running through the snow while Liko and Dot collapse, though to their surprise Nemona runs out of stamina first. Next the group pushes growing snowballs towards a target tree, and Dot and Floragato soon retreat to a small igloo out of the cold. Finally Roy and Fuecoco run up a slope while dodging and countering attacks from the others’ Pokémon. At dusk Roy feels the training helped but doubts it is enough, and Nemona observes that his sing-and-attack tactic has become predictable.
When Liko asks why Roy loves singing, he recalls sailing with his parents, who sang together on their ship before leaving on a long voyage and entrusting him to his grandfather. He kept singing the song they taught him, made friends with many Pokémon on his island and then met Fuecoco, who loves singing too. The memory gives Roy an idea, and he stays behind to train with Fuecoco and Nemona while Liko and Dot go back to stall for time. As night falls, the concert reaches its open participation segment with no sign of Roy, and Quaxwell steps onto the stage first, forcing Liko and Dot to follow; Quaxwell dances while Floragato uses her flower bud to knock Berries off the girls’ heads, buying just enough time for Roy to arrive and ask for another test. Ryme sees that he is serious and announces a special one-on-one battle, Toxtricity against Fuecoco, and Nemona reveals that the extra training included no battle practice at all.
Fuecoco dodges a string of Overdrives and counters with a Flamethrower that Boomburst blocks, though closer than before, then answers a Venoshock barrage with Flame Charge and Disarming Voice, which barely scratches Toxtricity. Knocked down by Overdrive, Fuecoco gets up, and Roy keeps calling for Disarming Voice as the two sing a new song, bouncing off Toxtricity’s attacks; the whole crowd joins in, the repeated Disarming Voices start to tell, and a Flame Charge, another Disarming Voice and a Stomping Tantrum, super effective against the Electric and Poison type, bring the audience to its feet. Ryme Terastallizes Toxtricity into a Ghost type and Roy answers in kind; Fuecoco dodges a barrage of boosted Hexes while the crowd sings, takes one at close range, and breaks through with a boosted Flamethrower that knocks Toxtricity out. Roy explains that singing is a way to convey feelings and that his new song is about connecting with Fuecoco. Ryme praises him for grasping its true purpose, reminds him that it is up to him to help Fuecoco reach his potential, and sends him a stamp, while Grusha watches from the crowd and walks away.
