Synopsis
Liko, Zirc and Onia find Amethio hiding alone on a remote island, and a hopeless but determined battle between Liko’s Charcadet and his Ceruledge rekindles Amethio’s resolve to stand against Spinel and collect his grandfather’s Zygarde Cells. The trio visit Amethio’s mansion with Cervantis’s permission. Zirc and Onia explain that the Explorers have changed since Spinel took over after Laqua and that Hamber wants Amethio found because he alone might stand against Spinel. Charcadet points out a photo of young Amethio with his own Charcadet, which later became Ceruledge. Cervantis, now working at an Exceed warehouse after stepping down as director, is about to say where it was taken when Spinel visits unexpectedly to reassure him that the Strong Spheres are going to plan. Afterwards Cervantis sends the location of an island south of Levincia. On the way, Zirc and Onia admit they once planned to use the “spoiled rich kid” to climb the ranks, before becoming completely loyal to him.
On the island, Amethio reflects on his year: after escaping Laqua he sent his subordinates back to the Explorers, fled Spinel’s pursuers by submarine to the island where his family once vacationed, and has hidden there alone, remembering his mother Maria asking Charcadet to protect him. When a boat crashes onto the shore, it carries not the Explorers but Liko, Zirc and Onia. Around a campfire they explain Spinel’s plans, and Amethio, having lost everything, feels powerless, so Liko repeats words he once said to her when they were trapped in a cave. Charcadet challenges Ceruledge, and Amethio reluctantly agrees. Ceruledge slices Ember in half and blocks the approach with Psycho Cut; Charcadet’s Clear Smog smokescreen is seen through, and Ceruledge, already in Phantom Force, strikes from behind. Amethio declares the battle over, but Liko refuses to recall her partner.
Supported by its Trainer and teammates, Charcadet rises with fierce determination, slides under another Psycho Cut and leaps high enough to land a powerful Ember on Ceruledge. Amethio is unimpressed, but both Trainers see the same resolve burning in Ceruledge’s eyes, and without a command Ceruledge ends the battle with Shadow Claw. Liko thanks Amethio and promises to grow stronger for their next match. Moved, Amethio tells Zirc and Onia that he cannot return with them: as Explorers they can act from within, while he must find his own path. Delighted to see his spark return, they hand him the Zygarde Cube, and he resolves to gather the Zygarde Cells of the White Zygarde that belonged to his grandfather, Gibeon. At Explorers headquarters Hamber breaks down in relief at the news, unaware that Chalce is watching on camera, and at sunrise Amethio leaves on Corviknight with the cube in hand. The episode confirms that Ceruledge is male.
