Synopsis
On a Ditto-hunting Blueberry Quest with Ann, Liko realises that her selfless Hattrem has always been doing exactly what makes her happy, and the joyful Hattrem evolves into Hatterene before scaring off a wild Eelektross. In the cafeteria, Liko notices Hattrem handing her food to Charcadet and stepping aside when Meowscarada wants Liko’s attention, and Ann, arriving with the idea of hunting for Ditto Blocks, frowns at it. Liko agrees, hoping to find a training opponent for Charcadet. When Meowscarada’s flower stem stops a Ditto from escaping, Hattrem pleads for it to be let go, and the group splits up to search the Terarium, where Meowscarada, with Hattrem’s help, finds a Shiny Ditto. Ann offers her Samurott as a sparring partner for Charcadet, and Liko wonders how she can help it improve. During a break, Liko asks Hattrem to help make sandwiches and tells her to do whatever makes her happy so she will stop holding back — words that trouble Ann.
While the girls make sandwiches, Ann explains that as a middle child people assume she never gets to do what she wants, but in fact she gladly does things for her siblings because she loves them. Liko realises that she has misunderstood Hattrem. Over lunch she tells Hattrem how she has worried about her ever since she was a Hatenna, how Hattrem has always cheered people up by sensing their feelings, and how happy she is to have her; Hattrem cries happy tears and the two hug, and overwhelmed with joy, Hattrem evolves into Hatterene — the first time a main character’s non-starter Pokémon has evolved in two different regions. Liko checks her Pokédex, and Hatterene returns with three Ditto Blocks hidden in her hair, inspiring Ann to search harder on her own. A Ditto that Hatterene befriended wanders into a cave, and the group follows it to find wild Tynamo and Eelektrik closing in on it.
Charcadet steps up, and Liko notices that its firing speed has increased, letting it use Ember in rapid succession while Meowscarada and Hatterene warn it of Tynamo sneaking up from behind; the team defeats every wild Pokémon in the cave, and Meowscarada rescues the Ditto for Hatterene to comfort. A wild Eelektross then blocks the exit, but Hatterene confronts it, intimidating it with her aura and attacking relentlessly with her newly learned Psycho Cut while healing herself with Heal Pulse, until the frightened EleFish Pokémon lets them pass. Outside, Ann remarks that Meowscarada and Hatterene have become very protective of Liko, then reveals her surprise: specks of light drifting down from above — diamond dust that she asked people to recreate so Liko could see it. Ann says that she has watched Liko hide her worries before but believes she is fine now, surrounded by people and Pokémon who love her, and that she loves Liko more than anyone. The next morning, Roy and Dot announce that Briar has finished her research on Pagogo.
