UnBEARable is the 29th episode of Pokémon: Johto League Champions, the fourth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 186th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 188, Bulbapedia code EP186). It first aired in Japan on 22 February 2001 and in the United States on 19 January 2002. It falls within the season’s Westward with Todd: Snowtop Mountain & Articuno stretch (EP184–EP191).
Synopsis
An adorable Teddiursa frames Ash’s Pokémon for its food thefts, then evolves into Ursaring after Chikorita finally beats it. Camping in a forest cabin, Misty finds the Teddiursa in her sleeping bag and is instantly smitten; Psyduck is blamed for stolen apples the next morning. Team Rocket, meanwhile, have taken a gravel-pit job and set up a roadside corn stand to fund their next scheme.
Over the course of the day Teddiursa eats the ham and plants the wrapper on Totodile, swallows the bananas, wraps the sausage bag around Chikorita and finally runs off with Brock’s backpack, and Misty believes its tearful performance every time. A hurt Chikorita flees in tears before Ash consoles her. Nurse Joy confirms Teddiursa has a history of thieving, and Misty apologises to the accused. By the river, the little bear slices through Team Rocket’s net, Slashes Arbok and Victreebel into submission and pops the balloon with Swift.
Chikorita demands satisfaction. Teddiursa dodges Tackle, hits with Swift and Slash and evades Vine Whip with Double Team, but a flurry of Razor Leaf connects and a Tackle floors it. Then it evolves into Ursaring and sends everyone running. Team Rocket later befriend the newly evolved bear around a campfire, oblivious to the sly glint in its eye.

Trivia
- The English title plays on “unbearable”.
- The screenplay is by Shōji Yonemura.
- This is a stand-alone episode: it can be skipped without losing the thread of the Johto story.
- The Who’s That Pokémon? segment features Teddiursa in Japan, where it almost always matched the episode, but Abra in the US, where 4Kids picked the Pokémon at random.
