Xatu the Future is the 25th episode of Pokémon: Master Quest, the fifth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 234th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 236, Bulbapedia code EP234). It first aired in Japan on 31 January 2002 and in the United States on 8 February 2003. It falls within the season’s Ecruteak, the Egg & the Lake of Rage stretch (EP226–EP236).
Synopsis
Ash and company along with Team Rocket fall into a pit and land in a man-made hallway. Soon they see a young girl in a white dress holding a watch voicing concern about being late. (Shades of Lewis Carroll!) They follow her and find an underground civilization dependent on the predictions of the future given by three xatus (Xatu 1, Xatu 2, and Xatu 3). But the xatus are getting on in years and their predictions seem to make no sense. This may be the day predicted centuries ago, that the civilization is coming to an end.

Trivia
- The English title plays on the film "Back to the Future".
- The screenplay is by Takeshi Shudō.
- This is a stand-alone episode: it can be skipped without losing the thread of the Johto story.
- The Who’s That Pokémon? segment features Xatu in Japan, where it almost always matched the episode, but Ledian in the US, where 4Kids picked the Pokémon at random.
