Synopsis

On the way to the Battle Factory the group picnic at the foot of Mt. Moon, where Brock explains that he left his newly evolved Ludicolo at home in Pewter City because his younger siblings got along so well with it. Misty, now carrying a Pokégear, gets a call from her sister Daisy complaining that the Cerulean Gym is swamped with challengers and suggesting they simply hand out Cascade Badges; Misty tells her to be patient. A wild Cleffa wanders up, and then Team Rocket arrive with a vacuum attached to their Meowth balloon and suck up all the group’s Pokémon except Pikachu. Jessie’s Seviper poisons Pikachu with Poison Tail, but Jessie’s tinkering reverses the suction and the machine explodes, throwing Misty, Max, Pikachu, Azurill and the Cleffa into a river. May reaches for Max’s hand and misses.

Misty and Max haul themselves out of the river downstream. Pikachu is badly poisoned, and Misty’s Azurill cures him with Refresh. Cleffa leads them to a Pecha Berry tree, but three Beedrill chase them over a cliff, and they land softly on moss in a forest and shelter from a storm in a cave. Ash, May and Brock search with Mudkip’s radar fin without success and wait out the rain under a tree beside a Clefairy and a Clefable. In the cave Misty and Max talk about their older sisters, and the two youngest siblings agree that, however annoying their sisters can be, they will keep helping them, a conversation that foreshadows Misty’s own decision at the end of the episode.

After the storm the groups search for each other and Team Rocket attack again; May pulls Max away from the vacuum, and Azurill’s Bubble blows up the machine. When Seviper and Cacnea come out, the Cleffa family answers with Metronome, Munchlax joins in, and a parade of random moves follows: Cleffa produces Splash and Clefable’s Teeter Dance sets Team Rocket dancing helplessly, while Munchlax and Clefairy charge Solar Beams. Pikachu’s Thunderbolt stops Seviper and Cacnea and the Solar Beams blast the trio away. That night everyone watches the Cleffa family’s moon dance around the Moon Stone on Mt. Moon. The next morning Daisy calls again, and Misty says goodbye and heads home to the Cerulean Gym with Azurill. It is Misty’s last regular appearance until the Sun and Moon series, and Rachael Lillis’s last episode as Misty.
