Synopsis
On the road to Cremini Town and the Battle Tower, May spots an adorable Smoochum hiding in the bushes, but as she approaches it, the little Pokémon glows with Psychic power and an icy Blizzard slams into the group. Three Jynx, Smoochum’s big sisters, are guarding her, and when Ash steps forward he and Pikachu are buried in snow. Furious, he orders a Thunderbolt, but the Jynx freeze Pikachu solid with Ice Beam. May holds him back, pointing out that the sisters are only protecting their sibling, and Max explains that Smoochum evolves into Jynx. The group leave them in peace, but Smoochum soon wanders off again. Not far away, Team Rocket are squabbling over their one remaining rice ball, which rolls down a hill straight to Smoochum, who gobbles it up and then gazes at the trio so sweetly that they are completely captivated. Jessie decides to turn her into a star and charge for appearances.
When the Jynx see their sister floating away in Team Rocket’s balloon, they storm into town and start freezing everything in sight, from traffic to a Magikarp and a Spearow. Ash demands that they stop, and the sisters use telepathy to show him the kidnapping, but they keep attacking anyway and May’s Combusken is easily overwhelmed by Blizzard. Swellow tracks down Team Rocket’s hideout, and Ash provokes the Jynx with a Thunderbolt to lead them there, where Jessie is trying to teach Smoochum a cha-cha routine. The Jynx freeze the trio and drive them into the bushes, and decoys, Mime Jr. and Meowth dressed as Smoochum, fool nobody: Mime Jr. is flung aside and caught by James, while Meowth is frozen after winking at one of the sisters. Jessie flees up a radio tower clutching the real Smoochum, and the exhausted Jynx cannot reach her.
Ash climbs after her, dodging the Jynx’s attacks until his friends convince them he is trying to help. At the top, a gust of wind knocks Jessie off balance and Smoochum falls; Ash dives after her, catches her in mid-air and is plummeting toward the ground when the Jynx stop his fall with Psychic. The sisters thank him for saving their sister, and he thanks them for saving his life. Team Rocket’s balloon, inflated with a bicycle pump, arrives late, and Jessie grabs Smoochum with a robotic arm, but the Jynx freeze the claw, Swellow’s Aerial Ace breaks it and Smoochum lands safely on Brock’s belly. Pikachu’s Thunderbolt shatters the frozen balloon and blasts Team Rocket away. At sunset, Smoochum says goodbye to Ash with a kiss and evolves into a Jynx herself, and the group spend the night in Cremini Town before heading for the Battle Tower.
