Synopsis

Late one night, Team Rocket sneak into a garden to snack on Berries, and a caped figure leaps down from a rooftop and blasts them away with Magical Leaf. The next day Ash, Dawn and Brock arrive in Floaroma Town, which an old woman explains was once barren until a beautiful woman climbed the hill to give thanks and flowers spread across the land. Dawn spots a sign for a Poffin cooking class and explains that Poffins are Pokémon treats that improve a Pokémon’s condition for Contests, something she used to help her mother make. Ash compares them to Hoenn’s Pokéblocks, though Brock points out they are made differently, and Dawn talks the boys into joining. At a flower shop tended by a Lotad and a Roserade, which flees in fright when Ash shouts, they meet their teacher, Forsythia, and Brock is promptly dragged away by Croagunk.

Dawn times her batter perfectly with her Pokétch’s Kitchen Timer, Brock cooks with practised ease, and Ash nearly spills his and burns the lot. At the tasting, Brock’s Pokémon love his Poffins, Ash’s Pokémon ignore his for Forsythia’s, and Dawn’s Pokémon turn up their noses at hers; one stray Poffin rolls out of a window to Meowth, who loves it. Forsythia explains that every Pokémon has its own taste, and that Johanna’s recipe was made for Glameow. Over tea she describes how Roserade was once a shy Budew that followed her home from a Pokémon Center, attracted by her flowers, and evolved as it grew up among them, while the red scarf she gave it for warmth turns it into a bold protector. Meanwhile, Team Rocket hatch a plan to sell Poffins for profit and storm the garden in a mecha to steal the Berries.

Pikachu’s Thunderbolt does nothing to the mecha, and a brawl breaks out: Croagunk’s Poison Sting blocks Dustox’s, Pin Missile and Bullet Seed stop Bubble Beam and Razor Leaf, Wobbuffet’s Mirror Coat reflects Swift and Cacnea’s Sandstorm halts Ice Beam. Wearing its scarf, Roserade strikes with Magical Leaf, and Team Rocket realise it is the masked attacker from the night before. Meowth traps everyone but Forsythia in baskets, and Mime Jr.’s Tickle pulls the scarf off, leaving Roserade frozen with fear as the trio carry it away. Forsythia blocks their path and tells Roserade it is strong even without the scarf; it breaks free with Petal Dance, slices the mecha’s tyres and the baskets, and blasts the villains off. Roserade’s Sunny Day and Lotad’s Water Gun restore the garden, and Dawn’s second batch of Poffins is a hit, persuading her that a Pokémon can be both strong and beautiful.
