Synopsis
Trapped by the forest fire, Ash has Buizel’s Water Gun clear a path, and he and Riolu escape the flames, only for J to freeze Riolu with her laser. Ash grabs the wooden figurine just before Salamence’s Hyper Beam blasts him away, and J loads the frozen Riolu into one of her vehicles. While Dawn and Brock help the wild Pokémon flee, Kellyn uses his Styler to enlist three Blastoise, whose Rain Dance puts out the fire. Meanwhile Ash climbs to high ground with the help of Chimchar’s Dig, spots J’s airship and sneaks aboard. On the bridge, J’s client calls to confirm that the Riolu is genuine and agrees to pay. When Ash storms in demanding Riolu back, J reveals that she knew he was there all along and sends out her Drapion, which seizes him in its pincers; Pikachu attacks and Ash kicks Drapion in the face to break free.
J opens a hatch beneath them, and Ash and Pikachu plunge out of the ship until Kellyn catches them on Staraptor. Ash is devastated that Riolu is still in J’s hands, and Solana reports that J’s client has escaped from the police as well. With the airship hidden, Ash uses his Aura sense and Kellyn his Ranger skills to track it, and the group race to the handover point on Dodrio. J delivers Riolu to the client and leaves him to face Ash’s team alone. Staravia slashes the tyres of his truck so it cannot drive off, but the client summons a Fearow and flies away with Riolu’s case. Solana and Officer Jenny arrive to deal with the remaining henchmen, joined by Dawn and Brock, and Solana’s Trapinch traps them and their Pokémon with Rock Tomb. Kellyn and Ash pursue the client on Dodrio, and Kellyn’s Dodrio runs up a steep cliff and leaps onto Fearow, slowing it with Fury Attack.
The client dives into a cave and has his Aggron seal the entrance with Rock Smash. Kellyn recruits a wild Donphan, whose Rollout breaks through the first barrier, but the tunnels beyond are blocked too, so Ash uses Riolu’s Aura to locate the client and directs Donphan to clear the correct tunnel. Donphan’s Horn Attack knocks Aggron back, the client drops Riolu’s case and Ash frees Riolu, whose Aura Sphere counters Aggron’s Hyper Beam before Pikachu’s Volt Tackle knocks Aggron out on top of its Trainer. Elsewhere, J receives a new mission and simply ignores Team Rocket’s attempt at revenge, ramming her airship into their Meowth balloon and blasting them away. By evening Officer Jenny has taken the criminals away and Riolu is reunited with its Trainer. Kellyn declares the mission complete, Ash returns the figurine, and Riolu thanks him through their shared Aura. It is Ranger Solana’s last appearance in the anime.
