Synopsis

At Port Valor on the shore of Lake Valor, Ash, Dawn and Brock wait for May’s ferry, and a Beautifly lands on Ash’s head just before May arrives with gifts: wooden bear carvings for Brock and Ash and a Piplup necklace for Dawn. May explains that Max is at home looking after their father’s Pokémon at the Petalburg Gym, and that during three days in Sinnoh she visited Snowpoint City, where an ice crystal helped her Eevee evolve into Glaceon, which she hopes will shine in Johto Contests. She shows Dawn her three Johto Ribbons, and the two compare their recent setbacks. May has booked lunch at the Seven Stars Restaurant, but there a young man storms out vowing to train until he is good enough to eat there: the maître d’ explains that diners must first beat the owner, Roman, and his fiancée, Kylie, in Tag Battles. Ash and Brock go first, and Pikachu’s Volt Tackle and Sudowoodo’s Double-Edge knock out Snorlax and Munchlax with a single blow each.

Ash insists that the group will eat together or not at all, so May and Dawn’s battle, Blaziken and Piplup against Roman’s Girafarig and Kylie’s Drifloon, is about to begin when a waiter reports that all the food has been stolen. May is furious, and the chef confirms that the kitchen has been cleaned out. May sends out Munchlax, whose nose picks up a trail that Kylie’s own Munchlax cannot, and it leads straight to Team Rocket, feasting on the stolen dishes. May’s temper flares further when Brock points out a fridge still holding food, and she sends out her newly evolved Glaceon alongside Dawn’s Buneary. Carnivine’s Bullet Seed and Seviper’s Poison Tail are stopped cold by a double Ice Beam that freezes the trio in place; Glaceon’s Iron Tail lifts the frozen villains and Buneary’s Bounce launches them into the sky. Grateful, Roman lets everyone eat without battling, though the meal has to be cooked from scratch.

While they wait, May and Dawn finish their Tag Battle. Girafarig bites and Drifloon uses Constrict, and Drifloon blocks Piplup’s Bubble Beam and seizes Piplup while Girafarig dodges Blaze Kick and bites Blaziken’s ankle. Dawn has Piplup trap both opponents in Whirlpool and push them towards the ceiling, and May, borrowing Piplup, calls for Bubble Beam before Blaziken leaps above with Fire Spin; the fire and water fuse into a dazzling attack that knocks out Girafarig and Drifloon. On the balcony over Lake Valor, May asks Ash whether he still has his half of the Ribbon they split after their last battle in Kanto, and both proudly show their halves, while Dawn shows the Ribbon her mother gave her as a lucky charm. When Ash mentions that Wallace has suggested he enter the Cup with Buizel, May is surprised, and all three resolve to compete and win. It is the final physical appearance of May’s Blaziken and, to date, May’s last encounter with Team Rocket.
