Synopsis

While Dawn practises Contest moves, Ash worries about how to beat Drifblim’s Hypnosis and falls asleep thinking about it. Brock heads off to a pharmacy to restock his medicine, leaving Ash and Dawn in charge of the chores and the Pokémon. Things go wrong at once: at shower time Ash accidentally sprays Pachirisu with cold water, and Dawn scolds him and switches to warm, and after Dawn and Pikachu make pancakes for everyone, Pachirisu falls ill with a fever. There is no Pokémon Center nearby, so Ash sends Staravia to find Brock, much to Gliscor’s disappointment. Buneary makes an ice pack with Ice Beam, and Dawn places it on Pachirisu’s head. Then the pair start blaming each other, Dawn pointing to the cold shower and Ash to the pancakes, until Pachirisu’s weak cry stops them. They search outside for Oran Berries but find none.

Meanwhile Team Rocket spot a Zapdos from their balloon and fire a glue bazooka at it; Zapdos dodges and the glue hits Staravia instead, sticking its wing so that it has to land and struggle to clean itself. When Staravia does not return, Ash sends Gliscor, which finds Brock by landing on him and gesturing frantically. Brock realises something is wrong, but because Gliscor needs wind to fly and moves slowly on the ground, he carries it for a while and then leaves it behind to hurry ahead. Dawn remembers that her mother fed her mashed fruit when she was sick, but Pachirisu refuses the fruit Pikachu finds. Brock arrives and diagnoses the fever as a build-up of electricity, like the one Pikachu once suffered; he drains the excess charge with a device and gives Pachirisu medicine. He tells Ash and Dawn that staying calm matters most in an emergency, and Dawn cries over how she behaved while Ash comforts her.

Brock explains that they searched in the wrong place, since Oran Berries do not grow in dry soil, and leads them to a damp spot where the berries grow, which Pachirisu eats happily. Elsewhere, a group of Wooper help Staravia wash the glue off its wings. Pachirisu soon recovers and races around, only to be caught in Team Rocket’s net, the trio announcing that they wanted Pikachu but will settle for Pachirisu. Staravia returns in time to fan James’s second glue shot back at him and cut the net with Aerial Ace, Buneary freezes the trio with Ice Beam and follows with Dizzy Punch, and Pachirisu blasts them off with Discharge. Brock offers to teach Ash and Dawn first aid, and they agree. As everyone tucks into Brock’s cooking, Ash suddenly remembers Gliscor, which is still slowly making its way back to the cabin. It was the first episode to air in Japan after the release of Pokémon Platinum, which may explain the Zapdos cameo.
