Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 2 is the 36th episode of Pokémon: BW Rival Destinies, the fifteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 737th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 742, Bulbapedia code BW084). It first aired in Japan on 14 June 2012 and in the United States on 20 October 2012. It falls within the season’s Virbank City & the eighth Badge stretch (EP80–EP84).
Synopsis
Ash wins the Toxic Badge from Roxie with his last Pokémon, Pikachu, earning his eighth Badge and a place in the Unova League. Scolipede traps the poisoned Leavanny with Rock Tomb and finishes it with Sludge Bomb, but Pignite, though poisoned by Toxic, defeats Scolipede with Fire Pledge, and Roxie cures it with a Pecha Berry because a poisoned opponent is no fun.
Roxie’s Garbodor stretches its arms to dodge and pound Pignite with Double Slap, then cuts through Fire Pledge with Hyper Beam. Palpitoad’s Hydro Pump cancels a second Hyper Beam, but Gunk Shot poisons it and two Venoshocks knock it out, leaving only Pikachu. Garbodor pins Pikachu to the ceiling, batters it with Double Slap and poisons it with Gunk Shot, while Iris and Cilan return with drums and face paint to cheer Ash on.
After so many Double Slaps, Pikachu’s Static paralyses Garbodor, stopping its Venoshock, and Thunderbolt and Electro Ball knock it out. Roxie, beaten for the first time, gives Pikachu a Pecha Berry and awards Ash the Toxic Badge, which qualifies him for the Unova League, as Meloetta watches happily before flying away.
