Synopsis

At Cynthia’s villa in Undella Town, Ash reunites with Dawn, while Meloetta finally comes out of hiding to join the group. On the drive from the seaplane Meloetta appears in Ash’s lap, and Cynthia suggests that it likes him; inside, Dawn surprises Ash with a tap on the shoulder, and the old friends greet each other with a high five.

Dawn congratulates Ash on his eight Badges, explains Pokémon Contests to Iris and Cilan, and announces that she has come to Unova to enter the Junior Cup. Everyone sends out their Pokémon: Buneary cuddles up to Pikachu, Dawn’s Cyndaquil turns out to have evolved into Quilava, and Piplup’s crush on Meloetta starts a jealous rivalry with Oshawott.

Cilan asks to battle Dawn first so he can evaluate a Coordinator’s Pokémon. Piplup uses Drill Peck to redirect Pansage’s Bullet Seed and a spinning Bubble Beam as a Counter Shield against Rock Tomb, and their Solar Beam and Ice Beam meet in a brilliant flash that sets Meloetta dancing with Piplup. That evening Meloetta sings on a rock by the sea, while Team Rocket and Dr. Zager finalize a plan to capture it that involves a set of undersea ruins.
