Synopsis
At the Hokulani Observatory on Ula’ula Island, a Minior shower helps Sophocles recover a forgotten childhood memory of the Minior he befriended and watched return to space. Climbing towards the observatory, the class sees shooting stars and makes wishes—Mallow for Aina’s Kitchen to become famous, Kiawe for his sister’s and Turtonator’s health, Lana to catch a Kyogre, Lillie to be Snowy’s friend forever and Ash to become a Pokémon Master—until Sophocles points out that they were Minior, Pokémon from outer space. At the observatory they meet Sophocles’s cousin Molayne, whom he calls “Big Mo.” Ash notices that Sophocles seems less excited than everyone else, and Molayne explains that he has seen the stars many times; Sophocles mentions that he once befriended a Minior and shows them an old shell, from which Poipole pops out and sprays Ash.
Poipole’s antics knock Pikachu into its food, setting off an electric chain reaction that Togedemaru absorbs and then releases when Molayne’s Magneton appears. That night the group stargazes, spotting a Ninetales constellation, Pikachu and Poipole shapes and a Rayquaza formation, and then hurries to Starfall Hill, where many Minior land around them. Poipole adores a pink-core Minior, and Molayne explains that Minior eat space dust that hardens into their heavy shells. As the Minior float back into the sky, one stays inside its shell; Ash tries to open it, but Molayne warns that Minior can explode, and the boys carry it back to the observatory. The next morning, Poipole touches the shell and it cracks open, releasing an orange-core Minior, and the scene stirs Sophocles’s memory of a pink-core Minior long ago.
Poipole paints a Minior mural to apologise for splashing the newcomer, and the two become friends while the class spends the day sledding and playing Pokémon Base. Sophocles, though, sits alone, unable to remember what became of his Minior. On the night of the shower’s peak, his memories grow clearer: his Minior drifted up to join the others. Molayne explains that Minior shells usually burn up in the atmosphere and that heavy shells are rare, and Sophocles concludes that his friend returned to space. As the Minior’s glow fades away, everyone feels sad but humbled, and Professor Kukui says that memories of friendship matter more than having a friend nearby; Ash comforts Poipole. Then Lana spots a real Rayquaza flying overhead, and Sophocles notes that it, too, is a Pokémon from space.
