Synopsis
Following Lunala into Poipole’s dark home world, the Ultra Guardians learn from an ailing Naganadel that UB Black is Necrozma, the Blinding One that once lit that world, while Professor Kukui and Faba hold off the Matori Matrix in Alola. Restored by the light of the Z-Rings, Lunala is eager to help Nebby, and Lusamine reluctantly lets the Guardians go with it. Team Rocket sneak into the school hoping to grab Lunala before Matori can, and chase the team as it flies out. Kukui volunteers to watch for the Matori Matrix, and Faba joins him, appointing himself team leader. When the helicopter finds the wormhole Lunala has opened, Kukui’s Braviary attacks it, and Gozu lands on Ten Carat Hill, where Braviary’s Rock Slide, Alakazam’s Shadow Ball and Hypno’s Psychic damage the aircraft further before Gozu counterattacks.
Beyond the wormhole, in a dark world, a swarm of Poipole attacks the Guardians with Venoshock until Ash’s Poipole persuades its kin that the visitors only want to save Nebby. A Naganadel emerges from their hive and collapses, and Ash runs to help; once Poipole convinces it to eat Mallow’s Sitrus Berries, it thanks them telepathically. Naganadel confirms that UB Black is Necrozma and asks them to leave it alone, because its power is needed. Its vision shows a world once bright and full of flowers under Necrozma’s protective light, until Necrozma destroyed a falling meteor and turned black, sinking into a deep slumber. Without its light, the plants withered, the Poipole huddled together, and the aging Naganadel sent a lone Poipole—Ash’s—to find them a new home. Nebby and Lunala’s arrival woke Necrozma, which wants their light to heal itself.
The Guardians face a dilemma, since restoring this world could mean losing Nebby. Then Lunala falls, struck by Dusk Mane Necrozma’s Prismatic Laser, and Gladion races to help it, but Ash stops him from simply driving Necrozma away: it is starving for light, just as Sophocles was hungry before his friends shared their lunch. Sophocles proposes feeding Necrozma their Z-Power so that it will release Nebby, and Gladion agrees. On Ten Carat Hill, Gozu Mega Evolves his Aggron, whose Heavy Slam defeats Kukui’s and Faba’s Pokémon while Team Rocket watch from their balloon and wait for the Guardians to return. At the base, Burnet deciphers the mural: the Blinding One’s light was restored by Solgaleo, Lunala and the people and Pokémon of Alola. In Poipole’s world, Ash, Lana, Kiawe and Gladion combine four Z-Moves into a single beam that strikes Dusk Mane Necrozma.
