Synopsis
When the Cerise family nurse an injured Pidove back to health, Yamper grows jealous of the newcomer, and the story of the “Runaway Yamper Incident” reveals how Chloe once felt the same way about Yamper. Chloe is complaining to her mother, Talia, about a magazine drawing that makes her look as if she has bed hair when Yamper barks at the door, carrying an unconscious Pidove that had crashed into Chloe’s window. The bird wakes in a panic but cannot fly with its hurt wing, so the family decides to care for it. At Cerise Park, meanwhile, Goh asks Ash to help find his Sobble; they follow a trail of crying Pokémon until Butterfree and Venomoth’s Stun Spore reveals Sobble in a tree, and when Scyther’s approach sets it off again, Dragonite gently cradles it until it calms down.
At home Pidove devours a whole bowl of food, and after a chaotic chase it settles on Yamper’s back and refuses to leave, dodging his shakes and even his electric shocks; Professor Cerise explains that Pidove is a very forgetful Pokémon. The next morning Yamper tugs at Chloe’s clothes to keep her away from Pidove, and Cerise realises he is jealous. At the lab the professor searches for Pidove’s Trainer and posts notices online. When Pidove greets Chloe after school, Yamper barks furiously, drawing Ash and Goh, and Cerise tells them that Chloe was even more jealous as a child. A friend from Galar gave Yamper to the family when Chloe was small; Ren remembers being scolded whenever he paid it attention, and Chrysa admits to envying her younger sister.
Cerise recounts the “Runaway Yamper Incident”: tired of being followed everywhere, little Chloe pushed Yamper away and it ran off, but when she searched for it in a park and was cornered by a group of Venonat, Yamper appeared and yapped until they fled—and it has slept only in her room and eaten only from her hand ever since. Yamper’s barking then draws everyone outside, where the wild Fearow that chased Pidove into Chloe’s window is swooping down. Yamper carries Pidove to Chloe and turns to face the attacker alone, and Cerise tells his assistants not to interfere. Encouraged by her father, Chloe commands Yamper to attack, and a single Spark knocks the Fearow out; it soon recovers and flies off, and Goh realises too late that he missed a chance to catch it. Pidove is reunited with its Trainer, who explains that it leads his Pidove racing team, and the Cerise family wave goodbye.
