Synopsis

At a Pokémon trading event, Ash defeats the Bug-type fan Kricketina Kylie in a World Coronation Series match, and Goh helps her find a Pinsir to trade for one of her Heracross, overcoming a hungry Team Rocket along the way. Professor Cerise tells the boys about the event at the Pokémon Center, where Goh mistakes Kricketina’s costume for a real Kricketune. She has caught every Bug type in Sinnoh and is now collecting those of other regions, and her Rotom Phone signals an official Great Class match against Ash. Her Heracross dodges Quick Attack, attacks with Arm Thrust, Fury Attack and Megahorn, but Pikachu stops running, snares it in Electroweb and finishes it with Iron Tail, lifting Ash to 890th while Kricketina drops. At the Pokémon Center she admires Goh’s rare Pinsir and offers to trade her Heracross for it; Goh will not part with it but offers to help her find another, and the group heads to Vermilion Forest with Goh’s Pinsir and a batch of Kricketina Treats, a berry-and-herb bait meant to lure Pinsir.

Team Rocket are also in the forest, so hungry that even a weak Caterpie is too much for Wobbuffet, and they blame their greedy companion Morpeko for draining their energy. The scent of the Kricketina Treats leads them to a plate on a tree stump; they hide when they see Morpeko licking the mixture off a tree, but hunger wins and they devour every plate the group has set out. Finding the plates licked clean and no Pinsir, Kricketina notes that Bug types could never have emptied them so thoroughly, and strange noises lead the group to Team Rocket, who are busily preparing more bait. Refreshed, the trio recite their motto while grumbling about the taste, and the Rocket Prize Master gives them a Scolipede and a Drapion—which promptly get distracted by another plate of treats.

Meowth launches a net that traps Ash, Kricketina, Pikachu, Sobble and Raboot, and Sobble’s crying sets everyone else off. Goh sends out Pinsir, which is reluctant to fight, while Kricketina’s eager Heracross knocks Meowth back with Arm Thrust, overwhelms his Fury Swipes with Fury Attack, and drives off Jessie and Wobbuffet’s attempt to kidnap Pinsir with a flurry of Aerial Ace. Pinsir falls for its brave rescuer, and Goh calls for a final Megahorn that sends Team Rocket blasting off. A wild Pinsir then turns up, lured by a leftover treat, and with Kricketina still tangled in the net, Goh catches it himself. Freed, Kricketina proposes the trade again, insisting that Goh take one particular Heracross that has taken a liking to him. At the Pokémon Center they make the official trade on a trading machine; the new Pinsir finds Kricketina overbearing, Goh’s new Heracross tosses her aside with its horn, and Goh welcomes it to his team.
