Synopsis
Chloe spends a girls’ night at Chrysa’s apartment and sets out to reunite the research fellow with the kind stranger she remembers, only to discover that it was his scarf-wearing Psyduck Chrysa adored. Chrysa begins her day with a call from her mother, who asks her to visit more often and whether she has a special someone; flustered, Chrysa hangs up, then talks to a photo of herself with a man and his Psyduck in a scarf. That cold afternoon Chloe arrives at the Cerise Laboratory hoping to have lunch with Ash and Goh, but the boys head off to look for Ice-type Pokémon, Parker has taken Yamper to Jinny’s house and Talia is away on a job. After Ash’s Gengar startles Chloe and Ren by popping out of a wall, and Chrysa calmly tells it to stop, Chloe asks to watch Chrysa work. She admires how composed Chrysa stays while Ren grows tense, and Chrysa invites her to a girls’ night, promising to teach her some easy hair-braiding.
At Chrysa’s apartment, Chloe is surprised to find Psyduck merchandise everywhere and clothes scattered around, which Chrysa hastily stuffs into a cupboard; she explains that just looking at Psyduck relaxes her. Meanwhile Ash and Goh find no Ice types at Vermilion Port, missing a school of Lapras hiding in the water, and at a ramen shop they meet a man whose scarf-wearing Psyduck gets a headache and hits everyone with Confusion; its Trainer apologises by buying the boys ramen. Chloe and Chrysa eat, sample perfumes as “research” and change into pyjamas, Chloe into a Psyduck set that embarrasses her. In bed, Chloe confesses how much she admires Chrysa, and Chrysa tells her about her biggest failure: losing her research papers on the way to a conference. A scarf-wearing Psyduck and its Trainer cheered her up, and the photo of them in front of the snowman they built still lifts her spirits. Chloe suspects Chrysa has feelings for the man.
The next morning, Chloe hears from Ash and Goh, over breakfast, about the man with the scarf-wearing Psyduck, and determined to play matchmaker, she sets out to find him with the boys in tow. Their search turns up nothing until the Psyduck repeats its Confusion incident, this time on Chloe, and she drags its Trainer back to the Cerise Laboratory, where Chrysa is sweeping snow. The tearful reunion, however, is between Chrysa and the Psyduck, not the man, which leaves Chloe stunned and Ash, Goh and their Pokémon looking on in confusion. Chrysa takes a new photo with the Psyduck and everyone present and places it on her desk at the lab. She thanks Chloe warmly for arranging the reunion, while Chloe, who had expected a romance, is left rather annoyed at how the whole affair has turned out.
