Synopsis
When the petal-damaged White Flower Flabébé is left behind as Goh’s other Flabébé evolve, Goh takes her to Kalos to find a new flower, and after she evolves into Floette he lets her go to tend a garden of white flowers. In Cerise Park, Goh’s five Flabébé race one another and four of them evolve into Floette, but the White Flower Flabébé is missing: a petal has fallen from her flower and she can no longer fly properly. Goh and Ash take her to Shalour City in Kalos, where Goh first caught her, keeping her damaged flower in a glass jar while she rides on Goh’s head, clinging to his hair. The spot where she found her flower is now covered by a large rock, and no white flowers grow nearby. At the Pokémon Center, Grookey spills the Honey Goh brought for her onto his hair and sculpts it into funny shapes, cheering her up, and that night she tugs Goh awake for a moonlit walk.
The next day, none of the white flowers they find meets Flabébé’s standards. Camping in a forest, Goh tells her she can ride on his head for as long as it takes, but in the night Grookey wakes him to find her missing, repeatedly trying to fly with her broken flower, and Goh realises how badly she wants a new one. Professor Cerise refers them to a plant researcher, whose Orange Flower Florges notices Flabébé’s plight, leads her into the garden and makes its flowers bloom with Grassy Terrain. The researcher explains that Flabébé draw energy from flowers, Floette look after them and Florges devote their lives to protecting flower gardens; her own Florges once lost its flower, too. She directs the boys to mountains in the northwest where a friend has seen white flowers, and on the bus Goh notices Flabébé copying Florges’s Grassy Terrain pose and realises that she dreams of a garden of her own.
In the mountains they find only pink buds and search fruitlessly until nightfall, when Flabébé tugs Goh’s hair to turn back: under the moonlight the pink buds bloom white. She picks one and can finally fly again. Then a wild Flabébé without a flower arrives to choose its first and flies off with it, leaving a single white flower behind. Worried for the cluster, Goh’s Flabébé repeats the Grassy Terrain pose and evolves into Floette, and her new Grassy Terrain grows two buds to replace the picked flowers. Remembering the researcher’s words, Goh understands that Floette wants to stay in the mountains and protect the flowers, and she confirms it. On a cliff at dawn, Grookey and Floette both cry, but Goh says they must let her do her best and promises to return one day to see the garden she has grown. Floette flies off into the distance, the first Pokémon Goh has ever released.
