Synopsis
Ash receives a Mega Glove from Korrina in Kalos and sets out with Lucario to Mega Island, where Lucario senses its Mega Stone and wins the Lucarionite from a mysterious sage, while Goh catches a Camerupt. At the Shalour City Gym, Ash and Goh watch Korrina’s Mega Lucario overwhelm a challenger’s Quilladin with Aura Sphere. Gurkinn congratulates Ash on reaching the Ultra Class, and Ash explains that he wants his own Lucario to Mega Evolve before his coming Ultra and Master Class battles; remembering how fascinated Ash’s Riolu was by her Lucario, Korrina gladly agrees to help. At the top of the Tower of Mastery, she gives Ash a pair of gloves, one of them a Mega Glove set with a Key Stone. Lucario’s Aura flares, but Gurkinn explains that Mega Evolution also requires a Lucarionite, and the Key Stone has amplified Lucario’s Aura so that it can sense its Mega Stone, out to sea on Mega Island.
Gurkinn waits with the boat while Ash, Goh and Korrina search Mega Island, home to many Pokémon that can Mega Evolve. A glint in a cave turns out to be a Sableye’s eyes, and the group slips down a hillside frozen by an Abomasnow towards a ravine, until Lucario catches the edge with its spikes and holds on to Ash, Goh and Korrina in a chain, and Pikachu releases Dragonite and Flygon to fly them to safety. A Pidgeot’s Gust, in a battle with a Salamence overhead, blows them onto giant bouncing lily pads, separating Goh and Lucario from the others. In a volcanic area of erupting lava pillars, Lucario, a Steel type, struggles in the heat, so Goh’s Panpour summons rain with Rain Dance; Goh catches a Camerupt that blocks their path and Cinderace smashes a lava pillar with Pyro Ball. With no phone signal, Lucario reaches Ash through Aura, and Ash, concentrating through his Key Stone, senses both Lucario and its Mega Stone.
The four meet in the Steel Forest, where Lucario senses the Lucarionite inside a metal spike, and an Aura Sphere shatters the spike to reveal it floating in midair. A laughing old man calling himself the Mega Evolution Sage descends on his Alakazam and says Ash must defeat him to claim it. He Mega Evolves Alakazam, which holds the stone behind it; Psybeam counters Aura Sphere, and Psychic-hurled spoons pick out the real Lucario from its Double Team before Tri Attack paralyses it. Lucario’s first leap off the spikes fails, but on the second it vaults over Alakazam, grabs its beard and seizes the Lucarionite. The Sage throws off his robe and beard to reveal Gurkinn in disguise, and Korrina admits she knew it was him all along. On the boat back, Ash’s Rotom Phone announces his next World Coronation Series opponent: Bea, now ranked 30th, and Ash and Lucario smile, ready to face their rival for a third time.
