Synopsis
For his second Project Mew Trial Mission, Goh dives to the depths off Hoenn’s Slateport City with help from Elite Four member Drake and catches a wild Kingdra, along with an accidental Sharpedo. Goh chooses the challenge of catching a wild Kingdra, whose Pokédex entry says it makes whirlpools by yawning and battles fiercely with Dragonite, and heads for Slateport City, where whirlpools have been reported. Riding Dewgong and Mantyke with Pikachu and Grookey on a raft, the boys dive repeatedly without finding Kingdra or Seadra; Goh’s Poké Ball floats away before reaching a Luvdisc, he picks up a piece of pottery, and a Wailord blasts them to the surface. Nearby, on a salvage tug, is Drake of the Hoenn Elite Four, who greets Ash as “Slash” while Ash calls him “Flake.” Drake once met a Kingdra while caught in a whirlpool on a deep dive, and agrees to lend the boys his diving gear if they help him hunt for treasure.
Goh combines Lucario’s Aura with his Chinchou’s Supersonic to make a living radar, and at sunset Lucario detects something; guided by the boys, Drake finds an ancient submersible on the far side of an underwater ravine and photographs it before night falls. Over dinner and warm Moomoo Milk, he shows them that the submersible is shaped like a Kingdra, revered by its ancient builders, and an urn with Kingdra designs that started his treasure-hunting hobby; Goh realises his fragment came from a similar urn. Drake says that once he finds the treasure he will simply look for another, because what he really seeks is dreams and adventure. The next morning the boys dive in his place, each with an emergency tank holding ten minutes of air. A strong current carries them to the submersible, where a Seadra flees and they uncover a Dragon Scale in a treasure chest.
When the Seadra returns, a Sharpedo chasing it strikes Goh’s Poké Ball and is caught by accident. Goh gives the Seadra the Dragon Scale and asks it to lead them to Kingdra, but their air hoses run out of reach, and a whirlpool bursts from a cave in the ravine. Goh detaches his hose, switches to his tank and lets the whirlpool drag him inside, then lures the Kingdra out by playing a recording of Ash’s Dragonite. Kingdra dodges Inteleon’s Snipe Shots and counters with Dragon Breath until Ash and Dracovish arrive, Mantyke seals the exit with Ice Beam, Inteleon lands Liquidation and launches Goh’s Poké Ball with Snipe Shot to catch Kingdra. As the current grabs them again with their air running low, Kingdra’s Dragon Breath propels them to the surface, while the Seadra waves from the departing wreck. Danika confirms the catch as she and Quillon confront a Regirock in a desert ruin, and Goh receives his second token.
