Surging Sparks booster pack

Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks is the eighth main expansion of the Scarlet & Violet era, released on 8 November 2024. Set in the electric-charged Terarium of The Indigo Disk, it puts the supercharged Pikachu ex centre stage and carries on the Stellar Tera Pokémon ex mechanic introduced in Stellar Crown.

One of the largest Scarlet & Violet sets, its 191-card main set (252 with secret rares) is built from Japan’s Super Electric Breaker and Paradise Dragona, and stacks the roster with fan-favourite Pokémon ex — Latias ex, Alolan Exeggutor ex, Milotic ex, Archaludon ex and Black Kyurem ex among them — alongside a fresh wave of Trainers and eight ACE SPEC cards.

Surging Sparks is defined by its chase cards: the Special Illustration Rare Pikachu ex became one of the most iconic — and most valuable — cards of the entire era, joined by stunning full-art versions of Latias ex, Milotic ex and the set’s Trainers. On the competitive side, Archaludon ex and Latias ex anchored top-tier Standard decks well into the following season.

Terawatts of electricity crash down from the sky in a tropical paradise, setting the stage for the supercharged Pikachu ex! Fan-favourite Pokémon like Alolan Exeggutor ex, Milotic ex and Latias ex arrive alongside a host of Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, ready to light up the battlefield in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks expansion!

English version vs. Japanese Variations

Unusually, Surging Sparks was split across two Japanese sets (and likewise in Korea). Its core is Super Electric Breaker (超電ブレイカー, sv8), released on 18 October 2024, combined with the earlier Paradise Dragona (楽園ドラゴーナ, sv7a) subset. The Pokémon Company International merged and expanded the two into the 191-card English Surging Sparks (252 with secret rares). The Japanese releases carry their own names, logos and packaging rather than the English branding.

For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards

Pikachu ex

Pikachu ex — 238/191 (Special Illustration Rare)

The crown jewel of Surging Sparks — and one of the most famous cards of the whole Scarlet & Violet era. Pikachu ex’s Special Illustration Rare shows the mascot mid-surf on a wave of electricity, and it commands the set’s highest prices by a wide margin.

Latias ex

Latias ex — 239/191 (Special Illustration Rare)

Latias ex’s Special Illustration Rare pairs a soaring full-art scene with strong competitive demand, making it a premier chase card.

Milotic ex

Milotic ex — 237/191 (Special Illustration Rare)

Milotic ex’s Special Illustration Rare is one of the set’s most beautiful cards, its tender-hearted Pokémon rendered in flowing water and light.

Alolan Exeggutor ex

Alolan Exeggutor ex — 242/191 (Special Illustration Rare)

Alolan Exeggutor ex’s towering Special Illustration Rare is a fan favourite and a consistently high-value pull.

Most Powerful Cards (Competitive Play)

Archaludon ex

Archaludon ex — 130/191 (Double Rare)

A defining Standard-format threat. Its Assemble Alloy Ability accelerates Metal Energy from the deck to build a board fast, while its Metal Defender attack hits hard from behind a wall of Metal Pokémon. Archaludon ex anchored a top-tier archetype for much of the season.

Latias ex

Latias ex — 76/191 (Double Rare)

Latias ex’s Skyliner Ability gives it free retreat and mobility, and its Eon Blade attack swings for a reliable 200. It powered one of the format’s fastest and most consistent decks alongside Dragapult.

Pikachu ex

Pikachu ex — 57/191 (Double Rare)

The set’s namesake and a Stellar Tera attacker. Pikachu ex’s Topaz Bolt hits for a huge 300 damage, backed by its Resolute Heart Ability, and it became an iconic face of the era both competitively and for collectors.

Milotic ex

Milotic ex — 42/191 (Double Rare)

Milotic ex’s Sparkling Scales Ability blunts damage from your opponent’s evolved attackers, while its Hypno Splash attack chips in for 160 — a resilient support piece across several Water decks.

Trivia

  • Surging Sparks continued the Stellar Tera Pokémon ex mechanic and is themed around the electric-charged Terarium biome from The Indigo Disk.
  • The Special Illustration Rare Pikachu ex (238/191) became one of the most sought-after — and most valuable — cards of the entire Scarlet & Violet era.
  • At 252 cards, it is one of the largest main Scarlet & Violet expansions.
  • The English set draws on two Japanese expansions, Super Electric Breaker and Paradise Dragona.
  • Surging Sparks introduced eight ACE SPEC cards, continuing the returning ACE SPEC line.
  • Competitively, Archaludon ex and Latias ex both anchored top-tier Standard decks in the following season.
