Synopsis
Dawn’s humiliated Mamoswine runs into a forest and learns Hidden Power while helping a Tangrowth save an ancient tree. When Pikachu and Piplup laugh at a botched Ice Shard that leaves ice up Mamoswine’s nose, it storms off, and the Pokémon Ranger Verona warns Ash and Brock that a Tangrowth in the forest attacks large Pokémon.
Tangrowth drains Mamoswine and Grotle with Absorb but leaves Sitrus Berries behind, puzzling everyone, and Mamoswine rescues Dawn from an Ursaring’s Hyper Beam with Take Down. Team Rocket plan to catch Tangrowth for Giovanni. That night Dawn and Mamoswine follow it to a giant tree, where the forest’s Grass Pokémon explain that it is dying.
Verona says the thousand-year-old tree was split by a storm, and the Grass Pokémon have been using Growth to save it. When Team Rocket vacuum them up, Mamoswine reveals Hidden Power and defeats the trio. Grotle’s Synthesis restores energy, Mamoswine lets Tangrowth absorb its power, and together they revive the tree, restoring Mamoswine’s confidence.
