Synopsis
Ash, Dawn and Brock fill in for Dawn’s mother Johanna at her beginners’ class, and Dawn perfects a new combination called Ice Chandelier. Johanna has been asked to judge the Neighborly Town Contest in place of Nurse Joy, so the trio take over her “My Very First Pokémon Coordinator Class” for the town’s children.
A brash boy named Thomas doubts them and keeps tormenting Piplup, pulling his cheeks, drawing on his face and hitting him with a ball during Ash’s catching lesson. Brock teaches breeding, and Dawn tries out Ice Chandelier with Mamoswine’s Ice Shard and Pachirisu’s Discharge, but it fizzles. Meanwhile Jessie, as Jessilina, wins the Contest with Seviper’s Haze and Poison Tail.
Dawn revises the move: Buneary’s Ice Beam encases a spinning Pachirisu, which uses Discharge inside the ice, and the dazzling result wins over Thomas, who finally admits he liked Piplup all along. That night Johanna praises Jessilina’s performance, thanks the trio, and gives Dawn a new dress for the Grand Festival.
