The Fleeing Tower of Sunyshore! is the 9th episode of Pokémon DP: Sinnoh League Victors, the thirteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 628th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 633, Bulbapedia code DP166). It first aired in Japan on 4 March 2010 and in the United States on 31 July 2010. It falls within the season’s Infernape, Volkner & Sunyshore Tower stretch (EP163–EP166).
Synopsis
Ash’s Gym battle with Volkner is cut short when Team Rocket steal Sunyshore Tower, and aboard it Grotle evolves into Torterra. Volkner’s Luxray has just struck Grotle with Spark when the power fails across the city: Team Rocket have turned the tower into a rocket bound for Giovanni.
Ash, Volkner and their Electric Pokémon leap aboard as it lifts off, while Dawn and Brock stay behind; Brock and Flint pedal a generator to keep the Pokémon Center running. Inside the tower, Ash and Volkner are caged, and the tower’s generators absorb Pikachu’s Thunderbolt and Raichu’s Thunder until Gible breaks them out with Rock Smash.
Seviper and Carnivine drain Pikachu and Raichu, but Grotle charges in, evolves into Torterra and learns Leaf Storm, blowing Team Rocket out of the tower. Volkner seals the breach and, with the Electric Pokémon supplying power, steers the tower back to its base. With the tower and Gym needing repairs, the battle is postponed, and the friends head for Valor Lakefront and the Grand Festival.
