Plot episodeIris’s Excadrill debuts
The Bloom Is On Axew! is the 9th episode of Pokémon: Black & White, the fourteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 662nd episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 667, Bulbapedia code BW009). It first aired in Japan on 11 November 2010 and in the United States on 2 April 2011. It falls within the season’s The road to Nacrene stretch (EP8–EP13).
Synopsis
When Iris’s inexperienced Axew wakes a furious Scolipede, Iris is forced to send out her powerful but disobedient Excadrill. In a practice battle with Cilan, Iris holds Axew back so it can learn at its own pace, but its unfinished Dragon Rage blows up in everyone’s faces except its own.
Iris explains that the Elder of the Village of Dragons gave her Axew, and that Trainers there must raise theirs into Haxorus. Meanwhile, Giovanni sends Team Rocket to the Desert Resort to meet another agent about a meteorite fragment. Axew tumbles onto a sleeping Scolipede, and Pikachu’s Iron Tail and another misfired Dragon Rage set it rampaging after the group.
Snivy is spun around and knocked out, and Excadrill ignores Iris when she reluctantly calls on it, but Tepig, Pikachu and Pansage’s Solar Beam slow Scolipede while Iris swings in on a vine to rescue Axew. When Scolipede knocks Excadrill aside, the Drill Pokémon finally fights, shrugging off Toxic and sending Scolipede flying with Drill Run.
