Synopsis

In Twist Mountain, Team Rocket and Dr. Zager steal a Cover Fossil from an archaeologist named Ferris, hoping its Pokémon will lead them to a gateway into the ancient past. Lost in the mountain, the group meets Ferris and his Drilbur digging out the Fossil, and his childhood friend Sierra, who works for the local mining company and calls him an amateur.

In his lab Ferris tells how, as a boy, he slipped through a “time hole” behind a rock wall, befriended a Tirtouga bullied by Archen in the prehistoric world and gave it his pendant before returning; Sierra insists it was a dream. He notices a round object embedded in the Fossil just as Team Rocket snatch it with a mechanical hand.

Ash and Ferris jump aboard Dr. Zager’s helicopter, where Zager explains his plan: revive the Fossil and let the Tirtouga guide them to the time hole to capture ancient Pokémon before it closes. The newly restored Tirtouga panics and wrecks the helicopter with Ancient Power, then escapes. Ash and Ferris find it by the river, but it refuses to believe that Ferris is its old friend and attacks them both.
