A Pokévision of Things to Come! is the 21st episode of Pokémon the Series: XY, the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 816th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 821, Bulbapedia code XY021). It first aired in Japan on 27 March 2014 and in the United States on 14 June 2014. It falls within the season’s The Battle Chateau to the Cliff Badge stretch (EP20–EP25).
The UK’s CITV aired it a few hours earlier because of the time difference, the start of a run of weekend double bills that kept the UK ahead of the US until XY029.
Synopsis
Serena makes her first Pokévision video with Fennekin, and when Team Rocket kidnap their Pokémon, Fennekin overcomes its dislike of mud to save her and learns Flamethrower. At a Pokémon Center the group watch the top Pokévision videos, led by Aria and her Fennekin, and Serena decides to make her debut; Bonnie wants to film too, while Ash trains for his battle with Grant.
Bonnie’s video stars an awkward Clemont, Chespin and Bunnelby with Bonnie narrating; Clemont’s robotic camera runs wild and chases Serena and Fennekin, and Ash’s training Electro Ball hits them by accident. When the editing machine breaks, the “Pokévision Rocketeers”, Team Rocket with Meowth as a bearded director, offer to shoot a new video with the Pokémon, which turns out to be a trap.
Fletchling follows their balloon to a cave, where Pikachu, Dedenne and Fennekin break out of a glass cage, but Fennekin refuses to cross a muddy puddle. Inkay’s Psybeam knocks Serena into the mud, Fennekin rushes to her and learns Flamethrower, and Pikachu’s Thunderbolt blasts the villains off. Back at the Center the finished videos are a hit, except Bonnie’s, and Serena and Fennekin’s bond grows stronger.
