Synopsis
Searching the forest where Brassius saw the Black Rayquaza, Liko, Roy and Mollie find it ravaged by wildfire and confront an enormous Arboliva guarding a second Ancient Poké Ball, while Mollie reveals why she left her family’s career as a Pokémon doctor. Liko gathers her evidence outside Dot’s room, the Nidothing theme, the ever-present Quaxly, the costume on the balcony, and knocks, and Dot is about to confess when Liko announces that Dot must be Nidothing’s biggest fan; Dot is too baffled to correct her. Mollie, fresh from a phone call in which her mother again urges her to come home, sees a picture of the forest and decides to go along. Nemona guides the three to the woods, much of which has burned after lightning struck dry vegetation, then leaves, promising Roy a battle next time. Roy runs ahead to scout, telling the others to meet him at a giant tree on the horizon if they get separated, while aboard the ship Friede wonders why Liko’s mother, Lucca, has not called him back.
In the surviving green, Mollie teases Liko as a pampered princess, and Liko explains that her parents were always busy, her father making picture books and her mother teaching, and that she has not yet found her own path. Mollie admits that her own future was mapped out for her in a family of Pokémon doctors until she quit, promising to explain why later. Sent to gather Oran Berries, Liko gets lost without phone reception and heads for the giant tree, where Roy, climbing with Fuecoco, spots another Ancient Poké Ball near the top just as the tree begins to shake. In a scorched clearing Liko finds a badly weakened Paldean Wooper, but a band of Grass-type Pokémon snatches it away and will not let her near. Mollie arrives, has Chansey take the Wooper and, while treating it, explains that she left the Pokémon Center because she could not stop thinking about the injured wild Pokémon who never reach one.
The Grass types call out to the tree, which rises and reveals itself as a gigantic Arboliva. It shakes Roy loose and fires blasts of olive oil at the children, but Mollie refuses to abandon her patient, so Liko and Roy stand their ground. Liko warns Roy not to use Ember for fear of starting another fire; Sprigatito distracts the giant with Quick Attack, Fuecoco’s Stomping Tantrum breaks the ground beneath it, and a swirl of Leafage around its head lets a second Stomping Tantrum knock it down. As Arboliva struggles back up, the recovered Wooper walks over and persuades it that Mollie was only helping. The giant calms down, and once the Wooper has left with the Grass types, it lets out a sorrowful cry, lifts Liko and Roy high into the air, and shows them how badly the forest has been devastated.
