Synopsis
Hoping to write a school report about Friede and Captain Pikachu, Liko and Roy join them in a desert to find a lost Bramblin for Friede’s old friend Shine, and end up rescuing it from Pokémon poachers as the pair’s bickering hides perfect teamwork. As the Brave Olivine heads for Paldea, Friede proposes side jobs to pay the bills: Murdock will deliver sweets, Orla will ask former coworkers about repair work, and Mollie wants Dot to film a video promoting medical consultations. Liko offers to help but has classes, where Ann is amazed to hear about Hatenna and the homeroom teacher assigns a report on a Trainer and partner the students admire. Hearing Friede’s voice gives Liko her subject. At a desert bar, the bartender Shine shows them a photo of the Bramblin he caught in Paldea, which has gone missing, and warns them of hunters snatching wild Pokémon; Friede explains that Shine protects wild Pokémon.
Bramblin keeps blowing away on the wind: Cap’s catch attempt misses, a herd of Rhyhorn chases the group out of its territory, and Friede and Cap argue over whether it went towards the desert or the oasis, only for the children to spot it hanging from a tree on a cliff, proving both wrong. Liko finally spots it among a trail of tumbleweeds, but Terapagos tumbles out of her backpack and Bramblin escapes again, straight into a poachers’ net. Their boss, who wants only cute Pokémon, grudgingly takes it. In town, two girls call Cap cute and set off his sneezing allergy, and an irritated Cap tugs on Friede’s goggles and cheeks, leaving Liko wondering whether this is the bond she admires. At an oasis, Friede ties up two poachers and calls Shine to collect them, and the group heads for the boss’s hideout.
The boss’s crew sends out Omastar, Toxtricity and Mudsdale, and her fawning over Cap’s cuteness sets off his allergy mid-battle. Bramblin attacks its cage with Power Whip, but the boss’s Avalugg chills the captives with Blizzard. When Friede notices a glow from Bramblin, he and Cap argue over whether to force their way in, Cap storms off, and Friede sulks, leaving Liko and Roy to hold the line. Then Cap leaps from a cliff and knocks out Avalugg with Thunder Punch: the quarrel was a ruse to draw the poachers’ attention from the cage. Bramblin’s Rapid Spin evolves it into Brambleghast, whose stronger Power Whip frees every captive. The boss declares Cap not cute at all, to his relief, and Cap sends her Pokémon flying into their own cage. Back aboard, Liko reads her report, admitting she cannot explain what makes Friede and Cap so good together, only that they fill her with excitement and that she wants to be a Trainer like Friede someday.
