Synopsis

While the trio camp by a river to observe wild Pokémon for their reports, a jealous Floragato’s fur bristles into spikes when Liko touches her, and the two make up while watching a herd of Toedscool create a mysterious “pillar of petals.” With Professor Friede’s map of Pokémon habitats as a guide, Liko hopes to share her report with the Rising Volt Tacklers and Roy hopes to squeeze in some battles. Roy pitches his tent first, being used to camping, while Floragato, fascinated by a dangling rope, knocks over Liko’s half-built tent, and Dot sets up her workspace on a flat rock. When Floragato points out a sleeping Pineco, Roy trips over a root into its tree, and the falling Pineco explodes with Self-Destruct. Later, at the river, Roy spots a school of Arrokuda and then a Kilowattrel overhead and runs off with Wattrel to chase it. Liko stays behind to wash her Pokémon, but Hatenna keeps getting dirty and Terapagos keeps wandering away, and Floragato, ignored and irritated, turns her back; when Liko reaches out, her fur suddenly stiffens into spikes that prick Liko’s hand, and she runs off.

Back at camp, Dot, struggling for a report topic, reads about a “pillar of petals”: a column of flowers swept from the ground into the sky, whose cause, timing and source flower are unknown, and which is said to bring happiness to anyone who sees it. Sensing a rift between Liko and Floragato, she suggests that a local Pokémon may be responsible, and Liko decides to search for it with Floragato to cheer her up, only to find that Terapagos has wandered off again. Floragato follows reluctantly and ignores Liko’s pleas for help. Terapagos, meanwhile, delights in a pond of Magikarp until a charging Lechonk sends it flying over the trees. At the pond, Liko hands Hatenna to Floragato while she studies some footprints; when an explosion sounds, Liko runs towards it and falls into a vine-covered ravine, separated from her Pokémon. Floragato and Hatenna find Terapagos stuck on its back beside a Pineco, and Floragato grudgingly flips it over, then grabs it and flees when it toddles towards more Pineco hanging from the trees.

In the sweltering ravine, Liko hides from a stream of Toedscool that run down to cut away the vines stretched across its top. When the Toedscool notice her, Floragato rushes in to protect her; Liko stops her and hugs her despite the spikes, explaining that the Toedscool mean no harm, and Floragato’s tension fades and her fur softens. Terapagos offers to help, the Toedscool build a ladder for Liko and her Pokémon, and Floragato slices the remaining vines with Magical Leaf. As the sun heats the ground, a strong wind rushes through the opening and forms a twister, and the cheering Toedscool leap into it one by one, shedding their flaps into the swirling air: the pillar of petals. That night Dot is astonished to hear the story and explains that wind over hot ground, funnelled by the ravine, makes the tornado, which the local Toedscool use to shed their flaps. Liko admits she forgot to take any photos, so she decides to draw an illustration for her report, glad the experience has brought her and Floragato closer.
