Synopsis

Friede visits his former employer Exceed to investigate the Treasure of Eternity, battling his way into a guarded vault only to find it empty, while the trio head back to Naranja Academy with Ann and Amethio is revealed to be Gibeon’s grandson. Poring over Lucius’s memoirs and Diana’s diary for clues about Terapagos, Friede hears from Orla that the Brave Olivine’s repairs are half done and that she is considering a boost for the airship. On the road, Ann, returning after passing her own test, catches up with Liko, Roy and Dot; she notices the evolved Hattrem and Kilowattrel and spots Terapagos peeking from Liko’s bag, which Liko explains is the pendant she once showed her. Liko tells her that Terapagos wants to reach a distant place called Laqua, which is why they are taking the course, and Ann, noticing how much more confident Liko has become, asks Roy and Dot to be her friends. Friede calls to ask whether Liko and Roy saw a pink haze when they met Lucius’s Lapras and Galarian Moltres; both say yes, and Liko adds that she saw it with Arboliva too.

At Exceed, Friede meets its director Cervantis, his former boss, and apologises for leaving the company years earlier for selfish reasons; Cervantis forgives him, saying a stuffy laboratory never suited him, while his Cinccino cleans Captain Pikachu’s hat. Friede asks about the Treasure of Eternity, which he heard of during his time there and believes is linked to his research. Cervantis knows only that a superior passed it to him and that an outside research team manages it, but he gives Friede his old security pass. In the lab, a Joltik leads Friede to his former colleague Yanga, who shows him a photo of the mineral before his database access is suddenly blocked. Suspicious, Friede heads for the underground vault, where a Watchog, a Bisharp and an Orbeetle stand guard; Captain Pikachu distracts them with Double Team and knocks each out with Thunder Punch. Cap smashes a security camera with his tail, setting off an alarm, and inside Friede finds only an empty display case labelled as the Treasure of Eternity, also called Laquium.

Security officers and their Pokémon block the exit, so Captain Pikachu breaks through with Volt Tackle and Friede rides out on Charizard. No one notices Spinel hidden around a corner, smiling with a hand in his pocket, or his Beheeyem watching Friede from above as he wonders who took the treasure. On the road, Ann admits she was nervous leaving Kanto for Paldea; Liko says she felt the same at Indigo Academy until she met Sprigatito, and when Ann says Dewott and Sandshrew could take her anywhere, Liko wonders whether it is Terapagos leading her to Laqua rather than the other way round. The group runs ahead and finally sees Naranja Academy. At Explorers headquarters, Gibeon meets Amethio in person: they need more Laquium, so he is waiting for Terapagos to truly awaken, and Amethio, as his blood heir, must seize it. Amethio pledges himself as Gibeon’s grandson, tells the butler Hamber that he is nothing like his father, and, warned by Zirc and Onia that Spinel is on the move, resolves not to act rashly as he did with Black Rayquaza.
