Synopsis
Friede brings the trio to Geeta and Clavell to learn about Terapagos, and the history teacher Raifort takes them on a field trip where she tells the legend of Laqua, before the trio receive their second assignments: Dot against Larry, Roy against Ryme and Liko against Grusha. The Rising Volt Tacklers celebrate the first tests at Barato’s, where Murdock weeps over Dot’s performance, Mollie and Orla urge the children to keep a healthy balance, and Orla promises that the ship will be airworthy by the time they return; Friede announces an appointment at Naranja Academy. On the Brave Olivine, Ludlow finds a Gimmighoul Coin, muses that every object imbued with emotion has a history, and looks down to find it gone. At the academy, Terapagos pops out of Liko’s bag, startling Geeta and Clavell; Geeta shows historical sketches in which Liko recognises the Terastal Form that protected her from Black Rayquaza, and Clavell says Terapagos is believed to be closely tied to the Terastal phenomenon. Geeta adds that the Scarlet Book records a Terapagos-like Pokémon in Area Zero, the deepest point of the Great Crater of Paldea, and finds a sketch of a possible third form.
Roy proposes going to Area Zero, but Clavell warns that a recent accident has made entry difficult; Geeta offers to escort them someday and points them to someone who knows about events a century ago. In the library they meet the history teacher Raifort, beside whom sits a second Terapagos that turns out to be her Zoroark, which then turns into Captain Pikachu. Sensing that they are following a lead, Raifort invites them on fieldwork to hunt for ancient treasure in South Province (Area Three), telling the legend of the ancient adventurer, the Six Heroes and the paradise they sought, which appears in a history book as Laqua. Roy scans a Roaming Form Gimmighoul and vows to be the first in Paldea to catch one, but it vanishes, leaving a coin, and the “Gimmighoul” on Fuecoco’s head turns out to be Zoroark again. As the group splits up to collect coins, Terapagos leads the others to the ruins of an old fort, where it crawls into a hole and emerges with a Charcadet riding on its head, followed by a Nacli; Friede and Raifort explain that both species have lived alongside people in Paldea for centuries.
Roy returns with his hat full of coins, and Raifort explains that the watchtower was built by an emperor in the days when Paldea was divided into rival countries. Roy flies to the top on Kilowattrel and Friede carries Liko and Dot up on Charizard, where Fuecoco opens a treasure chest to reveal a Chest Form Gimmighoul. Under its purple aura, Roy hands over every coin he has collected; Friede explains that Gimmighoul bewitches people into gathering coins for it, and once it has the last one it leaps from the tower and escapes. Raifort reads the history book’s description of Laqua as a paradise a hundred days and nights beyond Paldea, Friede connects the name to Laquium, and as Terapagos cries out from the ledge, Liko imagines Lucius and Terapagos gazing over the land. The next day Dendra announces the implementation tests, in which students must use two Pokémon: Roy will face Ryme in Montenevera, Dot will face Larry in Medali, and Liko learns that Grusha, who spoke to her after her loss, is the Gym Leader she must face on Glaseado Mountain. They share the Rising Volt Tacklers handshake and set out for Medali, the closest.
