Synopsis
On the way to the Crystal Pool, a prankster Bombirdier keeps stealing the metal plate Dot’s Tinkatink is working on, and Tinkatink evolves into Tinkatuff to defend Quaxwell against two Bombirdier, one of them Terastallized. Liko, Roy, Dot and Friede climb the Infernal Pass to meet Briar while the rest of the crew join a cultural exchange in Mossui Town. Metal tubs crash down behind them, dropped by a laughing Bombirdier, which, Friede explains, loves startling people and Pokémon. Tinkatink tries hammering one of the tubs, drops her hammer and cries until Dot picks it up for her. When the group stops to watch wild Pokémon, Tinkatink finds scrap iron and starts hammering; Liko notices that her hammer has grown, and Dot observes that Tinkatink ignores everything else when she is working, which Liko and Roy compare to Dot’s focus on her streams. Bombirdier’s water balloons fail to break her concentration, but a set of chattering teeth startles her long enough for it to snatch the plate and fly off.
Quaxwell retrieves the plate from Bombirdier’s claws, but the bird returns and drops a Pineco, whose Self-Destruct creates a cloud of smoke that lets it steal the plate again. Tinkatink chases after it and disappears, so the group splits up to search. Lost, Tinkatink asks wild Pokémon for help without success, until she and Dot each follow a clanging sound and find Bombirdier startling a Magcargo with the plate. Tinkatink follows it to a stash of stolen metal objects, and while Bombirdier goes off for a drink, she climbs in to recover her plate just as Dot arrives. Quaxwell’s Water Gun distracts the returning Bombirdier, and Tinkatink settles down to finish her work. In retaliation, Bombirdier drops a metal tub on Quaxwell; when it tries again, Quaxwell’s Water Gun sends the tub flying back, and the furious Bombirdier Terastallizes into a pure Dark type, the first wild Pokémon in the series seen to Terastallize.
Stunned, Dot reaches for her own Tera Orb, but a second Bombirdier swoops in and she drops it; while she searches, Quaxwell fights both birds alone, determined that Tinkatink’s work will not be interrupted. Tinkatink fixes the iron plate to her hammer, but it is now too heavy to lift, and as she drags it towards the battle she topples off a cliff under its weight. When the Terastallized Bombirdier turns on her, she summons the strength to raise the hammer and evolves into Tinkatuff. With Quaxwell blocking attacks, Tinkatuff knocks out one Bombirdier with Brutal Swing and pounds the Terastallized one with a newly learned Play Rough, and both flee. Dot congratulates her partners, finds her Tera Orb nearby and cries happy tears over the finished hammer. When the group reunites, Liko checks Tinkatuff’s Pokédex entry and Friede marvels that wild Pokémon can Terastallize outside Paldea. Still fired up, Tinkatuff starts hammering a hexagonal nut into her hammer, eager to make it even bigger, to Dot’s delight.
