Synopsis

Ash defeats Morty’s Ghost types to win the Fog Badge, with Noctowl learning Confusion mid-battle. Nurse Joy suggests Noctowl’s Foresight could be his secret weapon, and at the Ecruteak Gym Morty pauses a lesson on Confuse Ray for his students to accept the challenge. Gastly opens by dodging Noctowl’s Hypnosis, and although Foresight keeps it visible, Lick knocks Noctowl out of the air and Ash recalls it. Pikachu lands Quick Attack but falls to Night Shade; Cyndaquil then runs straight up Gastly’s tongue to Tackle it out.

Haunter’s Mean Look snuffs out Cyndaquil’s flames and traps it in the fight. Swift hurts, Smokescreen covers, but Haunter grabs and licks Cyndaquil into defeat. Noctowl returns, duelling Hypnosis attacks cancel out and Confuse Ray lands, yet a confused Noctowl still Tackles through Night Shade; its horns glow and it learns Confusion, which beats Haunter. Against Gengar, Confusion redirects Shadow Ball, then rattles the building to reveal the invisible Ghost so that Foresight can lock on; a Tackle sends Gengar into the ceiling and down for the count. Morty concedes that Ash may truly have seen Ho-Oh and hands over the Badge.

Team Rocket, following James’s beeping Itemfinder into the Gym’s treasure store, are instead chased through a Gastly illusion of a banquet table that tries to eat them.
